Calling Pilots and Aviation Enthusiasts
« on: February 24, 2008, 09:10:29 pm »

Anyone have an interest in flying?  I am not a pilot, although I have taken some lessons, but my husband is a private pilot.  Aviation is a large part of our life.  Many of our vacations are aviation themed.  Annually we travel to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the world's largest air show.  We are members of a local aviation social club, where he is the president and I am the newsletter editor.  We also own an airplane and live with it in an aviation community.

So I was wondering if there are any pilots or aviation enthusiasts here.

I don't know if this counts, but U/L in U/L Flyer stands for ultralight.  I have a Hy-Tek Hurricane ultralight I keep hangared in Crosby, TX.    I made the comment one day a few years back to my wife I'd always wanted one of those things.  On my birthday, she bought me a flying lesson in a two seater.  The rest is history.   Weather permitting I try to fly about once a week.

Now why would anyone want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane?  :)

As an A&P mechanic for the last 18 years, I can say with confidence I've never seen a perfectly good airplane, not even right out of the factory ;)

Jumping out of them is an experience that cannot be described by anything else here on earth.  You gotta try it even if it's only just once.

Also, a woman in our flying club did it for her 75th birthday with her grandchildren there to watch.  That sure makes me feel wimpy!

wow! good on her!

This is me in my Hy-Tek Hurricane taxiing out for another flight.  I have a (ballistic) parachute too. It is that white canister behind me.  The parachute is attached to the airframe, not to me, just like your Cirrus SR-22.
