I came across what I consider to be a good article from the AV Club on their policies regarding commentary on their site.  I like what they have to say and thought y'all might find something of value from it.

Here's the original article with all the site's bells and whistles:

Here's the print version of it minus the layout (and paragraph breaks):

Kelly, I agree, that is really well-written, and a nice tone.  Are there parts you particularly would like us to adopt?

Fran, thanks for pointing it out to me.

No, nothing in particular comes to mind.  I don’t have any issues with the present policies, administration, or moderation of this board.  I posted the link simply as something of possible interest.  I thought the article did a good job of addressing the reality of maintaining a public site and that it covered all the bases.

Perhaps I should have directed it toward the Bettermost populace, but I didn't feel that was my place.  I directed it the way I did with the idea that it may aid y’all with any sticky matters that might occur in the future.

I appreciate the moderators we have and the work they do.  I’m sure there are many rewards in doing it, just as I’m sure it ain’t always fun and easy.

Nice essay. I particularly liked this part. A lot of people seem not to get the distinction.

Past deletions have prompted charges of censorship. Let’s define some terms: If we attempted to pass a law preventing you from saying something terrible, that would be censorship. If you showed up in our living room attempting to say the same thing, we’d have the right to throw you out. The First Amendment forbids Congress from passing laws that abridge freedom of speech on a national level; it does not in any way apply to our right to delete posts on this site.
