What is it September part II
« on: September 11, 2008, 09:06:27 am »
So, what on earth may this be? ? ?

It's about two meters long (6.5 feet).
The white plastic casing is dispensable.

Good luck!

This is a tough one, Chrissi.

I'll vote for falcon leash.

I voted leash. It loked too fancy for some of the things. However I am still uncertain what the screw on the end would be for.It actually looks very much like the chain on a Chanel handbag I have got,Xmas present when we had money.
So I  thought leash for a very pampered pooch.
I do expect to be completely wrong, but it's fun trying.

The screw on one end and the tiny hook on the other are intriguing.....  Well, I've pondered this a bit and I still have no idea, but I'm going with Pet leash adapter for bicycles.

Great job, Chrissi - thanks!

I was thinking the very same thing, Kelda. The screw on the end looks like it would fit perfectly on a camera. But I decided against it because the other part of the device looks like a chain of some sort. How would it hold the camera up?

I'm guessing it is some sort of dog toy. Maybe the screw fits on the toy, and the chain would allow someone to fling the toy and then pull it back to them. :-\

Chrissi said those white plastic fittings are replaceable. I think she told us that for a reason, like a hint. Maybe if the dog chews off the fittings they can be replaced?

I honestly have NO IDEA what that thing is!

Thanks for posting the game Chrissi! :D

David, I didn't say they're replacable, I said they're dispensable.

I just wanted to keep you folks from killing your eyes in the attempt to read the lettering on it , or to focus on them with your guesses.

Of course this doesn't mean that dog toy is wrong .....
But then it could be wrong ....
You'll just have to wait ;D

Oh yeah, you did say that didn't you? My bad.

So they are dispensable? Dispensable meaning you can take them off and throw them away in a trash barrel? Hmmm. Why would someone want to do that? :-\

Are they not supposed to be there to begin with? Perhaps they are something which should be removed once the item is purchased? Like those plastic holders they sometimes put around CDs at the music store. The cashier is SUPPOSED to remove them, but sometimes she doesn't and you have to do it yourself with a pair of scissors once you get home, almost breaking your hand in the process. Or melt it off with a lighter. >:(

Is that what you mean by dispensable Chrissi? Because why would somebody want or need to remove them and throw them out if they are supposed to be there to begin with and they serve some useful purpose?

They are white, round and plastic. They look like they can slide around on the chain. But they are dispensable. I don't understand. You know what that thing looks like? It looks like a jump rope, but it wasn't listed on the poll. That's the first thing I thought of when I saw the picture. And those plastic dispensable things would be the handles or holders.

I don't know. Now I'm really confused! >:(

The plot thickens.

A FALCON LEASH?? I didn't even see that option up there! >:(

I guess I read it too fast. But what would the screw be used for? Maybe they put a harness of some sort on the bird and use the screw to attach it. ???

Dispensable is what my dictionary said. Maybe abdicable would have been a better word choice.
I mean that you don't need them for the thingie to fulfill its purpose.

All I wanted to say is: do not concentrate on them, they are not important in order to find out what this thingie is.

They are not important in order to find out what it is, Chrissi said! She's dropping more hints ya'll! ;)

Let's think about it. So we really shouldn't be paying any attention at all to those white plastic deals, should we?

So David wonders why they are there to begin with! ???

I think Jess' choice of a falcon leash might be the correct answer. Those white plastic things are there to be used as grips, but it isn't necessary to use them unless you want to.

But that could work with any of those choices up there couldn't it? All of them would require grips (well sort of) in order to use them, including the dog toy holder! So I may be correct after all! :D

Well I first saw this just after Chrissi posted it, and decided to wait to see what others had voted for, before I put my vote in.....

I come in here today, 3 pages of discussion, and Im still none the wiser.

But.....I have voted for the Falcon thingy

I think those plastic things on the end are to protect the bird from getting its leg hurt by the chain.

Sue has another thing in her favour, Jess. She lives in one of the most beautiful parts of Australia - Queensland.  :D Think sub-tropical. Think bright, sunny days, all year round. Think rainforests, wild rivers and pristine, deserted beaches that stretch forever. Think the Great Barrier Reef and the Glasshouse Mountains. Think Steve Irwin!  ;D And it gets better - Sue owns a pet shop, with lots of cute little fluffies to cuddle and play with. What more could you ask for? (Hmm, on second thought, there are one or two little things you might miss, as would I!)  ;)

Wow......I just came in here and see I have proposed to Jess, she hasn't said yes or no yet, (but obviously still thinkin bout it), then Kerry's post (you should be on the Qld tourist board ).......

......and this all started cause I mentioned Jess and I could start our own little "cow and calf operation"....... ::) ::)

Well, by the looks of it Jess, you aint gonna leave Don, and I'm sure my Bob could not live without me either, so I guess we might just have to go on "fishing trips" for the next 20 or so years.

We just gotta make sure we take some dam fish home to the boys.  ::) ::) ::)

Oh, and as far as those "little things you might miss".......I have that taken care of too.......and the one I got, vibrates..... :o :o

Made my guess, without reading the thread.  Now I'll go see what others think!   ;D

I also wondered about the brick laying thingy.  That would be my 2nd choice.

Good luck!

Wow......I just came in here and see I have proposed to Jess, she hasn't said yes or no yet, (but obviously still thinkin bout it), then Kerry's post (you should be on the Qld tourist board ).......

Well, by the looks of it Jess, you aint gonna leave Don, and I'm sure my Bob could not live without me either, so I guess we might just have to go on "fishing trips" for the next 20 or so years.

Tell you what: I'll close the voting this evening and post another picture. Then y'all will have something to mull over and discuss about during (my) night. And tomorrow morning I'll tell you.

But the voting will be closed. If someones guesses correct after the second picture is posted, it's just for your own statisfaction to have guessed right. No prizes for comments send in after deadline.

Deal?

Yeah, but couldn't it screw into a falcon too....Im sure if we twisted it around a bit, and cut off a few pieces and chucked away the camera, we could use it for a falcon leash....... ::) ::)

thats what I think, how those dam chains can stand upright and hold up a camera.........unless of course its attached to a falcon, and they are trying to get above ground shots.......hmmmmmmmmmm......this could have been a trick question right from the start........ ::)

No prizes this time, I'm sorry. No cows, no other lifestock.

But I have consolation prizes again.

First the explanation: it's a chain camara stand. There are many varieties of them, as you have seen in the two very different pictures. The video shows yet another type of chain camera stand, a very practical one with a box where you can put the chain into.

Here's the video how to use it:
http://www.hr-online.de/website/fernsehen/sendungen/index.jsp?rubrik=22664&key=standard_document_35019974&mediakey=fs/dingsvomdach/20080818_kettenstativ&type=v

And here's another picture:

You stand with your foot on one end of the chain; the end with the screw goes into the camera, as many of you already thought. Then you tighten the chain - et voila, you can take picture with a longer shutter speed. It's not as firm as a tripod, but therefore small and easy to carry with you.

The chain camera stand from the second picture you can fix with your both feet, so you even got a more firm stand.

Well well well! Isn't that nifty? Now that I think about it, it really is a good idea. If you step down on the chain and then continue to pull UP on the camera, it would make it more stable, wouldn't it?

Chrissi you TRICKED us! You KNEW none of us would ever think it was a camera stand! ;) ;)

Aw, I think you should give Kelda the prize anyway!

That is nifty - I wouldn't have thought of that.  But, you know, I'd be really impressed if the photographer could use that chain stand and get himself in the picture!

Thanks, Chrissi - once again, I've learned something new!

Because she had the correct answer but then changed it -
this makes only a small prize. But cute! :D
