OT: Jake takes time out with filmmaker Bart
« on: June 02, 2006, 11:39:15 am »
Having taken box offices and award ceremonies all over the world by storm in 2005, Jake Gyllenhaal has been enjoying a bit of a break from the demands of his movie career. It seems likely the heart-throb actor has some new projects in the pipeline for the months ahead, though, as he was spotted out and about with Julianne Moore's director husband Bart Freundlich this week.

Bart teamed up with Jake's sister Maggie last year on the well-received romantic comedy Trust The Man. And his meeting with the younger Gyllenhaal sibling has sparked rumours they will be collaborating on a new movie later in the year.

The acclaimed film-maker would no doubt be delighted to have Hollywood's hottest young actor star in his next production. Thanks to his award-winning turn in Brokeback Mountain, Jake has become one of the most sought-after names in the movie industry.

And his meeting with Bart isn't the only lunch date that has set tongues wagging across the pond. Newspapers in the Big Apple are reporting a romance between the 25-year-old and V For Vendetta's leading lady Natalie Portman after the pair were seen dining together in the West Village.

It's an interesting illustration of the heterocentrism of our society that tongues start wagging when a man and woman are seen together in public, but are less likely to do so (with the possible exception regarding our Jakey) when the two celebs share the same gender. It is not inconceivable that Jake and Natalie might just be friends--though they would make a cute couple :)!

Excellent point there, Scott.

It applies everywhere, unfortunately.  If the same two girl coworkers or two guy coworkers always go out to lunch or share a smoke break together, they're "friends," but a guy and a girl always getting together the same way must be "an item."

Really, the main point here is why do we have to (and deserve to) know?  I guess I could see talking about it if they went to the Oscars or some other big public event as a couple.  But geez, imagine your every move being scrutinized.  If you're alone all the time, you must be "lonely" or "looking for love."  If you're with someone, anyone, there must be some extraordinary meaning to it.  Man, I'd hate to be famous.  I'd probably end up being one of those Sean Penn types who'd punch out a photographer or something.
No more beans!

On the poster behind them, is that a picture of two guys strolling along a beach holding hands?  That seated picture of Jake is gorgeous.

The upright one ain't bad, either.  Check out the sunlight playing on his hair.  And see how he lays his hand inside his pocket.  O, to be a glove upon that hand, that I might touch that... pocket.
