This past weekend, an odd sight could be seen on Avenue A: Vampires giving blood. For six hours this Saturday, a van from the
New York Blood Center parked in front of
Vampire Freaks, a store specializing in gothic and industrial clothing and accessories, for the store's second annual blood drive. “We tell people for every pint of blood they donate, they save three lives," said
Jet Berelson, the store’s owner, not long after giving up a pint of his own. About twenty people ended up donating, most coming from the store, according to
Milton Walker, supervisor and phlebotomist for New York Blood Center.
