The little puppies sure are cute, David. I hope to get a doggie of my own, when I retire in a couple of years, and that lovely pic sure does make me feel clucky. And I love the pic of the squirrel and cat too. Looks like the cat is about to pounce on the squirrel and gobble him up. Are you sure that cat's not real?

Wow, that cake sure is a beauty, Chuck. It was so sweet of you to only use 13 candles (Kerry does some quick mental arithmetic and figures each candle = approx 4.5 years! Yikes!)

I have 12 months accrued Long Service Leave owing to me, meaning I will remain on pay roll for 12 months even though I won't be working, after which time I will cash in my Superannuation and live happily ever after!

Here in Oz it's referred to as "The Third Age," which I guess is supposed to sound like a positive thing, but all it conjures up for me is images of walking frames and hearing aids!

However, as my dear old Mum used to say, "Every age has it's compensations," and I know already from experience that the Third Age is no exception. I'm enjoying it already!

Here anybody over 60 and not working more than 20 hours per week (you can be a millionaire) can obtain a seniors card. There are various concessions at different outlets such as movie houses (and free coffee with any purchase at Macdonalds :-) but the best thing of all is you pay just $2.50 and can travel all day on Sydney's public transport. I think Kerry and the others were jealous of my free ferry trip to Manly with Chuck. As I live 80 km from the city, a 2 hour train ride, I think it is the greatest thing since sliced bread and have been using it for over 5 years (yes I am very old, Kerry is still a youngster).

I had an absolutely super birthday today and got some really lovely gifts, including a beautiful portrait bust of the Hindu God Ganesh rendered in faux gilt silver wearing a faux ruby bindi on his forehead. I love it.

It's designed to be wall-mounted, so it'll be going up on the balcony first thing in the morning (approaching midnight here right now). I was also given a beautiful set of what I call Shiva beads, which I will utilise as a meditation device. Exciting! Om!

I'll be having another lunch tomorrow, which I'm looking forward to already.

Gasp, my seventh decade!

And yet, I still feel exactly the same as I always did. Until I look in the mirror that is!

I somehow missed Sel's beautiful birthday wishes and I apologise for missing it. Thank you for posting that wonderful recording of Luciano Pavarotti singing O Sole Mio, Sel. I love Pavarotti's fabulous voice. You couldn't have given me a better gift. Pavarotti had a strong connection with Australia in that he was very close to Australian operatic soprano supremo, Dame Joan Sutherland. They were very close both professionally and as friends. Pavarotti has sung many times here at the the Sydney Opera House.

I'm having the time of my life, Kelda. I am absolutely loving being retired. I fill my days taking long walks, both locally down to the nearby harbour foreshore and also more far-afield; reading all the books that have been on my reading list for the past 40+ years (Have just finished reading "The Secret Life of Oscar Wilde" by Neil McKenna and can strongly recommend it); doing lunch; shopping; going to the cinema mid-week (though there's not been much I've wanted to see of late - might see "Agora" next week tho); doing short trips away; catching-up with friends; painting and drawing; etc. This is the life-style I've wanted to live all my life!
