Great pictures, Meryl! Thank you for posting them. Signs do tell a history within a picture, and add a dimension....that first sign-post pointing back to NYC... and to Brussels!   And I think I about lost it at the Wasilla Public Library. No fires anywhere, I trust?

Hey! Sly Alaska has taken the North Pole for its own? While all the long while, Norway and Finland have been endlessly feuding over which one of those two nations has the right to the North Pole and its post office?!? I am schocked, horrified and dismayed!



 


But it does make my question about possibly seeing Santa up there even more relevant than I thought!

Thanks for noticing, Kelda!  Actually, I bought them shortly after the Wasilla pic was taken, in a charming little town called Talkeetna.  They're made of Alaskan rabbit fur. 

Well DID you see any Northern Lights?

Alas, no.  Was hopin' to see them when we were up in Fairbanks, but they didn't cooperate.  I got  sore from craning my neck to look out for them!

Wikipedia says the town was named that in 1953 to attract a toy manufacturer.  Now it attracts Santa fans and folks like me who want to send cards with the North Pole postmark!

EVERYONE knows the North Pole (magnetic, anyways) is in Canada and, I believe, Canada also has the (geographically) most northenly piece of land - so Santa definitively is Canadian.

(we got 'Santa' villages all over SOUTHERN Ontario too, so that don't mean much)

How could this not be one of my favorite old threads?     

Has it really been almost five years since my Alaskan debut?  I went back and did two more shows up north and wish I could go again; however, they've changed Artistic Directors, so now the new one is busy hiring his pals to direct the operas.  Oh, well, it was great while it lasted.  I still have my earmuffs to keep me warm!
