OT - Maggie Gyllenhaal
« on: July 30, 2006, 10:50:13 pm »
:)  Jake is not the only talented member of his family - actually they all are.  There is a beautiful picture of Maggie and accompanying article in this
week's Entertainment Weekly.  Maggie has no less than 6 movies coming out this year - she has been a busy lady for sure.  Jake also isn't the only gorgeous family member - Maggie shares the eyes and mouth of her younger brother - talent and beauty run rampant in that family. Maggie and Peter's baby is going to be one lucky nephew/niece.................  :D

I agree completley! I love Maggie Gyllenhaal, she is an amazingly talented actress (anyone who thinks differently, just watch her in Secretary  :o ) And, she's almost as beautiful as her brother.... I think her and Peter Saarsgaard make a beautiful couple though.

I love that pic of them, Vic!!

Here's another good one of Jake and Maggie... (Jake before his arms got all buff...)

A couple of Maggie Quotes...

"I didn't act the way little kids do, I threw my whole self into it." "Even in elementary school, I took it really seriously. I was always doing plays."

"I'm a sort of saute with olive oil kind of cook, but my brother is the real deal.  I stay with him when I'm in LA and he cooks these amazing meals for me like Roast with Bechamel, he's very serious about food"

They seem to have such a good relationship, really close.

This is from the Daily Trojan, The Student Newspaper for the University of Southern California..July 26, 2006

Celebrities rally voters
Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal visit USC to film a segment for the Oprah Winfrey Show.
by Kara Nichols in News

Jake Gyllenhaal, from "Donnie Darko," and Maggie Gyllenhaal, from "Mona Lisa Smile," made a surprise trip to USC late Monday afternoon to film a segment for The Oprah Winfrey Show promoting how easy it is to register to vote. Along with representatives from Declare Yourself, a non profit, non partisan campaign designed to get youth involved in politics, Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal asked students to either register to vote or, if registered, to sign a promise to Winfrey that they would vote in the upcoming presidential election on Nov.

Maggie Gyllenhaal has been making movie makers and movie goers sit up and take notice for the past few years. Unless you've been asleep at the switch, it was hard to ignore her exposure (both literally and figuratively) as an actress. For one, she appeared nude and got down on all fours in the S&M film Secretary, so it's safe to say that she made a lasting impression on the male psyche.Early on, Maggie Gyllenhaal's career consisted mainly of appearances as a teen. But it was her penchant for taking on new and risky projects that eventually catapulted her into stardom. From 2000's The Pornographer: A Love Story to 2002's Secretary, Maggie is taking Hollywood (and the rest of us) by storm.  She is amazing.

I agree.  And I like that first photo posted of them the best, myself.  Their faces are both so expressive there.  You can read them like open books - all the love and respect for and pride in each other is right there.  Love it.

Very nice pics & post! I LOVED Maggie in "Secretary" - a distinctly odd but sweet love story of sorts. How is it to see your brother or sister naked or near naked on the big screen!? Anyway they are both beautiful and talented. When is the baby due? Anyone know? Anyone know if there's an up-to-date web site for Jake? The "official" jake site is badly out of date.

A good up to date web site is iheartjake.com , you can also try jakewatch.blogspot.com

I read in an interview once where Jake adressed the question of seeing his sister naked in a movie, I don't remember the exact quote but it was something along the lines of, it was weird for him, but he thought it was done very beautifully and tastefully in the movie and that's what mattered.  I also think I read somewhere, regarding BBM, that Maggie said it was very hard for her to see her brother being beat up on screen, during Ennis's thought about Jack being murdered.  I thought that was interesting

I really adore all of these pictures. So sweet.

Anyway, I think Maggie G. is a really good actress. She had a really small role in Donnie Darko but there was something distinct about her in that movie. Then I saw her in World Trade Center and I think she was the only really, really good thing about that movie (overall, it was okay). I watched Secretary a few weeks ago and while the film won't have a lasting impression on me, I guarantee, I thought the way she portrayed Lee was adorable and empathetic. Girl's got talent, looks, and personality. (Don't you just hate people like that?  ;))
If you'd just realize what I just realized then we'd be perfect for each other and we'd never have to wonder if we missed out on each other now

I agree.  Several other people I know who've seen WTC said the same or a very similar thing.

And her brother's the real deal, all right.  :)

I say in honor of her birthday, we all go see "Stranger Than Fiction" today after work.  I'm gonna.  Actually, mainly because I liked it so much that I wanna see it again, and a friend wants to go who hasn't yet.  I had no idea it was her birthday, too.  Well, that settles it - it has been pre-determined I must see this film again today.  I have no choice.  ;)

Whoa!! I have a date to meet my husbie in an hour to go see it together.  You know what they say, "Great behinds stink alike..." :)  (Sorry, I know it's so gross.  And yet so funny.)  :)

Not sure if anyone else will be available, but I'll come see if anyone's in chat to talk about it when i get home.  That'll be around 9:30pm Pacific Time.

OFFICE ROMANCE

Award-winning actress and mum to new baby Ramona, Maggie Gyllenhaal, has spoken of how difficult it was making a film with her fiancé Peter Sarsgaard. They played a couple with serious relationship problems in the film High Falls, and Maggie found it emotionally draining having to fight all day at work. She said, "He was playing a big jerk and it was hard for me to be around him all day long. We were in a terrible relationship in the movie… I love his acting and I would love to make many movies with him but I want to make sure that the making of the movie will be good for us, because I'm not sure that the making of High Falls was good for us." In the post-Golden Globe interviews on E!, Maggie was asked how she liked Jake's rendition of the Dreamgirls song on SNL.  Here is my best effort at remembering her verbatim response:

"Well, I have to tell you the truth, we have a 3 month old, so I haven't seen Dreamgirls yet, because it's impossible to go a theater now.  But I could have told any of you that my brother was born to host Saturday Night Live.  Absolutely born for it.  I think he KILLED it, I mean SLAYED it."

I guess saying he killed it is a good thing?  She sure was smiling while she said it.

I agree. She made a much bigger impression on me than Jake did in DD.

What I love about her is that I don't think I've ever seen her, whatever the occasion, look over-styled and over-madeup. She never tries too hard. The woman has incredible poise and holds herself like she's absolutely her own person always - very, very sexy.

Contrast this with, for example, J-Lo - stunningly beautiful in 'Out of Sight', but now? After all the stylists and other assorted 'assistants' have had a go she looks like a shop mannequin. It's like they liposucked her personality...

What do you guys/girls think of Maggie's Agent Provocateur pics? I don't like the one that the below article starts with... the last line in the article is the link to the rest of the pics that are much nicer.
