Unfortunately, your not-particularly-well-educated English dude may have had a better grasp of what was going on with George Bush than a large portion of American voters. That's the sad part. I've seen the same thing here at BetterMost, where people from other countries pay more attention to what's going on here than people here do. Oh, but we can all say how long Kim Kardashian was married.

A friend of mine recently remarked that she doesn't remember whether Ronald Reagan was a Democrat or Republican. A different friend asked me whether a longtime senator from our state was still in office -- he's been out of office for 15 years. And these are both people with average-ish intelligence and some education.

I know, I know. I just don't know what to for people like that.
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

In rereading this comment of mine just now in Milo's post, I realize I clumsily worded it in a way that could easily be misread. So I'm clarifying: I didn't mean that here at BetterMost, people from other countries pay more attention to what's going on in the U.S. than Americans on BetterMost do. I meant Americans in real life. The American BetterMostians who have commented on such things seem very well informed.

Yes, definitely not Adele.

And yes, you're right M|Ilo.. this was at The Brits (The UK equivalent of The Grammys) this time last year. This performance, most people agree, was what really catapulted Adele into the big time.

Adele is definitely a national treasure - she's a very down to earth, funny, endearing woman. She's not that interested in UK politics... not really her bag, so its ironic that someone would pretend she's making statements about US politics.
