I love the way Daniel reflected his message back to a quotation from the Bible.

I think the Scandinavian languages (especially Danish) are close cousins to English, Kerry. I know Dutch is. In fact, Dutch is the closest language to English. Although Dutch is not Scandinavian. Also, Dutch and Danish are similar.

Yeah, you can almost see it and figure it out just by looking at it! :)

I find I can sometimes pick-up the jist of what's being said in a Dutch movie on television. Not completely, though. I still need the subtitles!  ;)   ;D

Just close enough to tease ya! :-*

It's sooooo close though, isn't it?

I wish I could remember all the Dutch I knew in my youth. Much of it is gone now. :'(

However the fact remains that Dutch and English are very similar. The closest, in fact.

And to a lesser degree so is Danish and the other Scandinavian languages.

After making last night's post, I had a closer look at the message and when I read it aloud, I felt I could (phonetically?) almost have a guess at what it said:

du ar = you are

den du ar = what you are

inte vad andra sager = not what others say

att du ar = that you are

Very like English.  :)

Very good!

You're more or less fluent in Swedish!   ;D

All the three Scandinavian languages are closely related, although also very different in some respects. The pronounciation e.g. is very different. Swedes and Norwegians usually understand each other better than any of them understand Danish, coz the Danish pronounciation is way different.

Danish is closer related to German than the other two are. I don't exactly know about Dutch, though.

Dutch is a funny language. When I hear it I sometimes have a feeling I understand almost everything, and sometimes
I don't have a clue!

There are more pics remaining than I originally thought, David.  :D  I just recounted the remaining pics and there are enough for another 3-4 weeks, if I continue to post 3 per day; though, I do sometimes miss the odd day here and there. This thread'll probably be all done and dusted by the end of the month.  :'(
