His Highness is the only known person of royal lineage in modern India to have publicly revealed he is gay.

Yes, I remember reading about His Highness. I greatly admire him.

Talk about courage! I wish I posessed half the courage as he.

Enormous courage, indeed.

His parent initially attempted but failed to disinherit him after he revealed his homosexuality. He has since been reunited with his father.

He works tirelessly for various HIV/AIDS causes in his homeland and abroad. The above pic was taken during a recent visit to Australia.

I love this formal court portrait of him, which can be found at his Wikipedia page. Alas, gone are the days when Maharajas wore whopping great rubies in their turbans.

Beautiful -

This is a wonderful thread, people's thoughts on the subject.

I loved Briana from Syndey's thoughts too.  So very true!

HUGE, indeed, Kelda!  :o

I remember a Bollywood movie was made in India a couple of years ago, featuring a lesbian love story. Riots and the fire bombing of cinemas ensued. It was quite nasty there for a while.  :'(

Founded in 1996, the Day of Silence has become the largest single student-led action
towards creating safer schools for all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or
gender expression. From the first-ever Day of Silence at the University of Virginia in 1996,
to the organizing efforts in over 8,000 middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities
across the USA in 2010, its textured history reflects its diversity in both numbers and
subsequent worldwide reach on 16 April 2010.

The "threatened" word in Steven's message relates to a recent remark made by
Australian conservative politician and leader of the Federal opposition, Tony Abbott,
in which he stated that he felt threatened by homosexuality.
