1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
Took six months off work to write, get fit, travel, etc.

2. Did you keep your New Years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
No, so none this year, why bother? The resolutions I made last year were very difficult ones such as Be True to Yourself. Instead of New Year's resolutions, they were more like New Life Resolutions, and it will probably take me the rest of my life to get proficient at them!

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? No, thankfully (I have two college-age children.)

4. Did anyone close to you die? My dog, Kapu.

5. What countries did you visit? I stayed in the US, but I sent my daughter and husband off to Italy for three weeks.

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009? Nothing really, but I suppose it would be nice to have a job.

7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? July 4th, which I spent in Lander, Wyoming with friends (they don't have fireworks in Riverton, they have a Mountain Man Rendezvous instead)

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
There were two: I helped out my mom, who wanted to sell her house and move. I helped her with that and then moved her to Denver to live with me. Also, my friend Rodney suddenly moved away from his house, so I disposed of all the contents and sold it. Whew!!

9. What was your biggest failure? I had hoped my mom would live with me in our house, but she only stayed two months and then moved into a retirement home.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Nope, none. Well, I had the flu one weekend, but didn't miss any work.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Grivel Crampons. They work so well for walking up a vertical frozen waterfall!!

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? Our president IMO for his patience and tolerance of dumm-assed people.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? Californians!! Not all of them...just certain of them!

14. Where did most of your money go?
Into footwear...I bought hiking boots, mountaineering boots, rock climbing shoes, snowshoes, crampons, and several pair of cowboy boots!

15.What made you really really really excited? The prospect of climbing a sheer rock or ice face, followed by a nice jacuzzi afterwards!

16.What song will forever remind you of 2009? Two: Amy McDonald's Run and John Denver's Rocky Mountain High.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

a) happier or sadder?
Happier!!

b) thinner or fatter? About the same (more muscle though)

c) richer or poorer? Richer in the currency that matters!

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
More writing and more time spent with my friends.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Sleeping.

20. How will you be spending Christmas? Spent Christmas at home with family, mother, and visiting relatives, from my side of the family, for a change.

21. How will you be spending New Year's? Saw my friend Laura play her fiddle with a Celtic band and watched the fireworks in dowtown Denver with my best friends Adam, Chuck, Katrina, and Jack!!

22. Did you fall in love in 2009? No falling in 2009, I just stayed at the same high level as previous years.

23. How many one-night stands?
All my stands are multi-night!

24. What were your favorite TV programs? TV? What's that? Oh, I watched PBR on TV, that was good!

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
No time for hate. No space for hate.

26. What was the best book you read?
On the Mountains of the Moon by Mary Ramstetter and Mountaineering: Freedom of the Hills.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery? Amy McDonald, Kevin Keller, Ludovico Einaudi, Darshan Ambient.

28. What did you want and get? I got my friend back.

29. What did you want and not get? A job (but I didn't want it that much)

30. What was your favorite film of this year? Slumdog Millionaire, Imaginarium, Avatar

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
You are a very nosy person, do you realize that? Well, I'll answer half of the question. I went with friends to Ten Sleep, Wyoming, one of my favorite places, and I saw James McMurtry, son of Larry, perform, and then I went to the top of Brokenback Mountain and slept there under the stars!

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
If Prop 8 hadn't been overturned and if the recession had ended.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009? Goodwill meets REI (Recreation Equipment Intl)

34. What kept you sane?
My friends

36. What political issue stirred you the most? Marriage Equality.

37. Who did you miss? Heath, of course.

38. Who was the best new person(s) you met? I met some awesome women when I enrolled in a women's rock climbing class. These are definitely women who rock!!

39. Side question...who would I like to get to know better? I think you would like Steven Soderburgh, Chuck. Oh, and Tom Ford, too! But "I think he's taken."

40. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
When the worst thing that could happen happens, you find out that it is the best thing that could happen.

41. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year (any song from any year):

My pack's on my back and my spurs are a'jingling
The sun's in my face and I'm singing this song:
Yippee Ti-yi-yo, Get along little dogies,
It's your misfortune and none of my own
Yippee Ti-yi-yo, Get along little dogies,
you know that Wyoming will be your new home!

I'd like to change my answer to this question to this:

Long May You Run, by Neil Young

We've been through some things together
With trunks of memories still to come
We found things to do in stormy weather
Long may you run

Long may you run
Long may you run
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining
in the sun
Long may you run

Well, it was back in Blind River in 1963
When I last saw you alive
But we missed that shift on the long decline
Long may you run

Long may you run
Long may you run
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining
in the sun
Long may you run

Maybe The Beach Boys have got you now
With those waves singin' "Caroline No"
Rollin' down that empty ocean road
Gettin' to the surf on time

Long may you run
Long may you run
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining
in the sun
Long may you run

Long may you run
Long may you run
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining

I just heard Neil sing this at the closing ceremony of the Olympics, as the flame was extinguished. There couldn't be a better song IMHO.
