Indy's Falcon Cam - Come Watch Our Falcons With Us!
« on: March 12, 2010, 04:34:13 am »
This is a popular event here in central Indiana. The falcon nest box is located on the 31st floor of the Market Tower building on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis. It's really cute to watch!

The Falcon Blog will keep you updated on the status of the falcons. It is located here....

Here is the link to the Falcon Cam....

(The camera will snap a new picture every 20 seconds)

I think she may have finally laid her eggs. She's sitting up there on the ledge right now. It will be easier to view once the sun comes up!

Here's the most recent picture taken by the camera...

OMG. Not a good picture to watch if you're suffering from vertigo!  ;D

Best of luck to the falcons. :)

This is really cool, David! Thank you!

You are welcome! She has moved away from the ledge now. She may be in the back. She often returns to the ledge late at night. She was sitting there earlier today watching the activities down below.

I can't wait to see her babies!

Awww, how sweet!   It's like Pale Male the red-tailed hawk, who lives overlooking Central Park in NYC.  Can't wait to see the babies either.  :)

I'm glad you like the Falcon Cam, Marina!

She should be laying her eggs anytime. I just checked the second camera and she's in the back of her nesting box, away from the ledge.

(Here's a picture from the second camera.)

She seems to spend much of the daylight hours at the ledge, the evening hours towards the back of the nesting area, and late night back at the ledge. So I expect to see her back out at the ledge in a few hours. There is also a male falcon named Kinney. The falcon we see most of the time is KathyQ.

Oh! I just read the new entry in the falcon blog! She's laid an egg! She laid an egg at 5:15 this afternoon!

YAY!!

They are joking around about the fact that she always seems to lay eggs on Saturdays. :D

Apparently Kinney spends much of his time on the ledge, so when we are seeing pictures of a falcon on the ledge, it could be Kinney. Now that KathyQ has laid an egg, she will be spending most of her time sitting on the nest. So from this point on if we see a falcon on the ledge it will almost definately be Kinney.

He's not there right now. He must be out hunting at the moment. :D

Here's a youtube video of KathyQ and Kinney taken on 3/06/10. They said the video is rated "N" for Nature. I think it shows the two falcons mating (based on the comments I read) but I'm not sure. :)

How exciting!   She's a beauty - a peregrine?

Yes, I think they call them peregrine falcons. I really don't know much about them, except they are fun to watch when it is time for them to lay their eggs! :)

And speaking of eggs, KathyQ just laid her second one! It happened early Tuesday morning. I haven't been keeping up with the falcons today (too much to do) but here's the entry from the falcon blog....

She Snuck One In!

Looks like KathyQ has foiled us again. I saw a pic out on another forum showing a second egg around 5:45 this morning. I didn't see it - did you?

So now we need to see the new wee bundle of joy. Shouldn't be too long as we are going to have a super weather day so the eggs will probably be uncovered much of the day.

On to egg #3!

Congratulations Ks - so glad they are still with us and we can rely on them to provide us with a glimpse into the wonder of nature.

I wonder if she will lay a third one? She is sitting on them right now - at least I think she is - the camera is blurry due to the low light levels inside the nest box. I will check back tomorrow after the sun comes back up! :D

And to the point!

I wish I could watch the video! Maybe in a couple of weeks...

Hey! We have egg #3!!! She laid it early this morning! I think she is probably finished now. She normally lays three eggs and then stops. She is on the nest right now but it looks like she is taking a nap. She deserves one!

We should see more of Kinney now, assuming she is all finished. He likes to help incubate the eggs. Well, he has enjoyed sitting on the nest in the past. Let's seee if he does it again! :D

It gets really cute once the babies hatch. That won't be for awhile though.
