Tony Curtis
« on: September 30, 2010, 08:26:08 am »

I see that Tony Curtis has passed.  While I was never a big fan, I was especially disgusted when
he and Ernest Borgnine blasted BBM without even seeing it.  I lost any respect I might have had
for them when they did that.  I feel that kind of thinking is what caused BBM not to win Best Picture,
when everyone knows it was the best film of 2005, in every way!

Yes, I remember that. That was truly one of his worst moments. Nice to see you here, chefjudy! How's things in and out of the kitchen?

Sorry to hear about Tony.  Though hardly without fault in Brokies' eyes, he did some great work in the movies.  Peace, bud.

I'll always remember him as Josephine.  Great entrance.

A full obituary is posted in Current Events.

I liked him, though I always felt he was a bit of a light-weight, a pretty-boy who sort of ended up being famous for being famous. Unfortunately I guess my final impression of him will be his disparaging of Brokeback Mountain.

He did a good job in Some Like it Hot, though of course most of his performance was simply an imitation of Cary Grant. In contrast Jack Lemon had to create two characters in that film.

Yeah, JL did most of the heavy lifting in that one.

I just read that Curtis's Josephine voice was dubbed by Paul Frees!

"Sweet Smell of Success" (1957) was a great film and the best role he was ever cast in.
