I remember when I was about 10, me and my sister were sitting at the kitchen table eating dinner while mom and dad were fighting in the next room. They were shouting at each other and suddenly mom threw a drink on him. Then she came into the kitchen and shouted "YA'LL DON'T LISTEN!" smacked us upside our heads and slammed the kitchen door closed. It's kind of hard NOT to listen when the shouting is coming from only 10 feet away.
Funny how some of those distant memories suddenly pop in my head like that.

it is terrifying isn't it? You feel like anything can happen...and out of control.
You know it wasn't anything YOU did that made things like that...
I remember one night my mother threw water on my father (they were in the living room) and he jumped up and shoved her all the way out into the hall and against the opposite wall. I remember how scared she looked and then he dragged her into their bedroom and shut the door. We didn't know what to do...we just paced back and forth looking at each other.
It is a hard thing to think about isn't it?
I feel for both of them...because they just didn't have any other skills to deal with things. They just didn't know how to do things any differently...
