After his role on OZ, Meloni became somewhat of a gay icon.
No! Really?
I think he's making a big mistake leaving
SVU before the show comes to an end because I think he's limited in the types of roles he's suitable for. I like him as Det. Stabler, but he's got the look that I call "scary-sexy." He looks like he's angry even when he isn't. I'm sure "scary" had something to do with his getting the role in
OZ. He doesn't have the charm of a George Clooney or a Patrick Dempsey. He's not suited for rom-coms. I think he's pretty much limited to macho types, like Keller and Stabler--cops, Marines, and serial killers.
Slightly OT, but I had made it a point to note the name of the woman who had the recurring role of Stabler's wife Kathy. Her name is Isabel Gillies (not sure I have the spelling correct). One of the first things that popped into my head when I learned that Meloni was not returning to
SVU was that Gillies was out of a job, too. Then a short while ago I found out that she's also a published writer--I came across her in a story about summer reading, and I recognized her immediately. I meant to try to track her down as a writer, but it slipped my mind. In any case, I was glad to learn that she has another career beside acting.
