One of my favorite radio stations, normally an 80's--90's station, has already started playing nothing but Christmas songs. That drives me crazy. However, when my alarm went off yesterday morning, the station began to play "Do You Hear What I Hear?" and I decided I actually like that song.

The singer was a woman. I don't know who she was, and, of course, the DJ didn't say--and that always drives me crazy, too.

(As for "The Little Drummer Boy"--let's not go there.  )

Whitney Houston?  Carrie Underwood?  Long shot:  Karen Carpenter?

Once I learned she had recorded it (thank you, Wikipedia), my guess would be Carrie Underwood. I think I know the voices of the other two well enough that I'm pretty sure it wasn't them.

I've decided my least favorite is the rendition of "Jingle Bells" that ends with the driver cracking the whip and the horse neighing in alarm (or pain).

This has happened exactly like last year!

Again there is another "on the other hand." Yesterday I turned on the radio while I was putting away clean laundry, when I actually heard a few minutes of a song from one of Mannheim Steamroller's Christmas collections. I recognized it immediately. I forget which Fresh Aire Christmas album it's from, and I don't remember the title exactly. I can't check it at the moment. It's based on "Ring, Christmas Bells."

Tell him when l come up to him and ask to play the record, l'm gonna say: ''Voulez-vous jouer ce disque?''
'Voulez-vous, will you kiss my dick?'
Will you play my record? One-track mind!

That was very interesting but I prefer a more traditional version.

That's it. Thanks, Chuck.

I don't really care for the original or for Steamroller's version.

Something else I need to check: I think it's that collection that starts off with the beginning of "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing" played by trumpets and made to sound like a Tudor-period fanfare. That I like.

Sorry, but I can't stand Mannheim Steamroller.  Way too bombastic.

I do like the original, however, in different arrangements.

I like the use of the steel drums in this version:

If you think they're too bombastic, what do you think of Trans Siberian Orchestra?
