Gay country singer Drake Jensen
« on: February 05, 2012, 03:50:56 pm »
On April 15, 1970, Glace Bay, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia birthed a country singer who would be destined to leave his boot-print on the soul of country music. Influenced by his mother’s love of country music, Drake Jensen, at the age of 4, connected to John Denver through “Country Roads”, giving his heart over to the music long before his mind knew how to sing it.

As a teenager, Cape Breton was the proving ground for Jensen and although he diligently canaried both rock and country in any venue available, it was a pathway to the hayfields and heartache of country music that opened up before him.

His first recorded cover of Anne Murray’s “A Little Good News” achieved impressive airplay in 2001 throughout the Maritimes and was a favorite of CBC Radio One. After a lengthy hiatus and a lonesome longing for some deep rooted country croon, Jensen re-invented his style, reloaded his soul and brought his dream of becoming a vocal artist, back to life.

Nashville producer Kiim Copeland describes Jensen’s vocals as “warm, rich and unique” and these qualities are what prompted her to work with him on this project.

Jensen’s vocal style is an earthy combination of Cape Breton grass-roots country with a strong draw to a vintage, organic platform of sound.

Drawing on his ability to spin a yarn, wind it around a note and tie it all with honest emotion and raw passion, Jensen’s music is driving him ever forward, on the road to recognition as a dexterous country vocalist and a force to be reckoned with in the country music genre.

Jensen’s first album contains all original material, some penned by him, all hand-picked for their emotional connectivity and lyrical impact. Once the smoke clears from the walk-on process, the world will see a man on fire and a future made brilliant by sheer passion for the music.

This is my first time hearing about him. He's got a really nice voice, and some solid writing. The videos could use some polish. I'd like to see him tour the US, and get some airplay down here.
