The woman with the pink ribbon on her hat is the third Grand Marshal, Edie Windsor - Edie Windsor's fight against DOMA began when she was slapped with $360,000 in federal estate taxes upon the death of her partner of 44 years, Thea Speyer. If she and Thea were able to legally marry, she would not have been charged those taxes. She's worked to bring her case all the way to the Supreme Court. Justices heard the case in March of this year and the decision struck down DOMA. Now gay couples who are legally married are to receive the same protections that straight couples receive. Wow, NY looked positively dignified compared to SF yesterday! The SF pride parade was the largest in the world. I watched it on TV and it was great! It was wild.

I wouldn't say the parade was "dignified", as we definitely had our share of peacocks in full bloom, but they seemed to move too quickly, and were blurred in my pics! LOL
