Probably, LOL. Actually in spanish it is called Limoná, but the right translation is white sangria, even though it doesn't make much sense.  ;)

Well, if we drink enough of them, it will make perfect sense.  :)

I live about and an hour north of San Diego and every year, the first weekend in December they host a community celebration in Balboa Park call Holiday Nights.  One of the areas is made up of cottages from around the world and the various members of the "cottages" sell ethnic holiday foods to raise funds for the year round up keep of their cottage and programs.  This year I finally finagalled the Glögg recipe out of a lovely lady in the House of Sweden....this stuff is delicious but lethal, definitely warm up the cockles of your heart on a cold night.  No wonder Bob and I always make this a overnight trip  ::)

Glögg
Spicy Swedish Fruit Drink

Ingredients:

10 whole cloves
7 cardamom pods, crushed
2 sticks cinnamon
1 piece (about 1/2 inch) gingerroot , if desired
2 cups water
10 whole blanched almonds, cut lengthwise in half
1-3/4 cups raisins
1 cup pitted large prunes
1 orange, cut into fourths
2 bottles (750 ml each) dry red wine
1 3/4 cups brandy
1 1/3 cups vodka
1/3 cup sugar

Directions:

1. Tie cloves, cardamom pods and seeds, cinnamon and gingerroot in cheesecloth bag. Heat spice bag, water, almonds, raisins, prunes and orange to boiling in 4-quart Dutch oven; reduce heat. Cover and simmer 45 minutes.

2. Remove spice bag, prunes and orange. (Reserve prunes for eating if desired.) Stir in remaining ingredients. Cover and heat over medium heat until mixture begins to bubble. Ladle almond half and a few raisins into each cup before filling with hot glögg.

Glogg sounds wonderful! Maybe this is the year I will try it! Thanks, friend!

Guess what...it's that time of year again! Time to think about making the things that need to steep or age before they're ready for the holidays. Glogg is high on my list, as are limoncello and perhaps a flavored brandy or herbal wine or vinegar. A trip to the farmer's market and liquor store is planned!!

I plopped two packages of raspberries into a liter of good quality white vinegar (made with grain) last weekend. Later, I'll add white wine to dilute it and maybe some vinegar starter. It's already a lovely pink color and the scent is now more floral. I'm going to let it steep until at least Thanksgiving.

Let's see, what else should we make??

It's going to be a merry holiday season around these parts. My daughter and husband started bottling wine three years ago, and now the merlot and meritage are ready for drinking! Plus, they bottled peach wine, beer, and just today, they made some grappa. Bourbon is next! Me, I babysat (no actual sitting involved).  8)

And also, I'm going to make homemade chai with black tea and spices.

Anyone know any good recipes for beverages with candied ginger? I have a lot of it.

I love candied ginger, but I don't make beverages from it. I just eat it as it is.

Starbucks used to make a wonderful pumpkin latter with bits of crystallized ginger in the bottom. The next year, they brought back the drink but with no ginger...that was the best part! I never order it now.

A new drink I am offering this year is made with vodka, tonic water, limes, and elderflower syrup. I got the last item at IKEA. I'm told you can make a nonalcoholic version that is just as good.

Oh, elderflower syrup is the best!

I didn't know you could buy it at IKEA.

I've made it myself a couple of times, it takes a helluva lot of elderflowers!!   ;D

It's soooo good! You can mix it with just water, or white wine, or club soda, or vodka, or make sherbet from it, or use it in cookies. I'm sure there are more ways you can use it, these are just a few.
