My DVD player has a one-quarter time feature
« on: April 07, 2006, 10:29:25 am »
I always knew you could fast forward through things at different speeds (2x, 4x, 6x, and 8x) but I didn't know you could ssssssllllllooooooowwwwww them down, too. Guess I never wanted to watch anything at one-quarter time, but now I realize I can make the 75 seconds of the second tent scene last a whole lot longer. Try it, folks, that little string of saliva looks awfully good.  >:D

Yes, I've been watching certain scenes at 8x slow.  Which helps me realize that it has not been my imagination that we see much less of Heath's face and eyes than we do of Jack's in "those" scenes.  Deliberate on Ang's part, I s'pose, to keep us, like Jack, wantin more than we're gettin.

You think? Wow! I've never thought of that!

I'm definitely going to watch some of the scenes in slow motion!!  ;D

It's great to see the scenes in slo-mo to catch all the details.  But one scene is very hard to watch that way--Jack's murder.  Still, it does answer the question of whether that was Jake or a double.  At least one shot is definitely Jake.  :(

It also answered the wood or bacon question for me.  Bacon it is.  ;D

Meryl, Jake must be in it (at least some of the time), because I recall reading somewhere that his sister Maggie, had a very hard time watching that scene - seeing her brother been 'beaten up'..

I had asked, a couple of days ago--when they are setting up camp, Jack put "something" in a bag and hauled it up in  teepee like thing. I commented that when camping at Glacier Nat'l Park, they told us to hang our food in the air to keep it from bears (being city campers, we just kept the food in the trunk of the car). My question to the group--I thought it looked like wood and was wondering why Jack was hanging wood in the air? This turned into a lively discussion and now Meryl says it was definitelyl bacon. I'll need to go home and watch that scene slow to convince myself.

Oh yeah, I've always wondered why he's hangin wood up there.  If they had bacon, why does he only mention beans?

Dunno. Mebbe they had eaten all the bacon by then?

Maybe it's for their dogs, or do they eat beans too?

Funny--I knew early on it was food (if not bacon) because why else hoist it in the air out of the clutches of bears (that exact intention is spelled out somewhere, in story or screenplay or sumptin'), but it never occured to me to wonder why whatever it was didn't preclude the need for Elk supplements--

They either et it up fast or it went bad, I reckon. (Didn't look too appetizin' in any case.)

Love your avatar, Jude.
I will admit to being a pervert and watching the second sex scene with Ennis and Alma in 1/8 time. I was trying to get a glimpse of the supposed Ennis meat and two vegs but alas, all I got was an eyeful of Alma's boob bouncing around very slowly.
...then you ask me about Mexico and tell me you'll kill me for needing somethin' I don't hardly never get.

lol it's actually Alma's/Michelle's thumb that people thought was Heath's 'meat and two vegs'

Brandon, no way Michelle's thumb is that floppy.

It's little Ennis, and you don't have to go to slo-mo to catch a glimpse of his dispirited debut, just watch the center of the screen--

But they have actors wear flesh colored things to cover that area during sex scenes.. unless there's a full on shot of it.

I tell you what, I watched that scene about 10 times, regular time and 1/8 time and I never once saw it. I saw him reach down as if to grab it, but I never saw him actually grab anything.

"dispirited debut"  LOL

On my DVD counter, it's at 1:18:28.

Update: I just realized that it's actual debut was going off the cliff.

Hmmm, after many rewindings, I think I'm in the "thumb" camp, but I think it might be Ennis's thumb, not Alma's.  If it's actually Little Ennis, then he certainly is little, and he seems to be sporting a manicure.  ;D

LOL! I don't have a DVD, though for what its worth I did keep as sharp an eye out as possible last time I was in the theater (having been alerted by some Tremblayan to the possibility) and didn't see nuthin. Anyway, it doesn't make sense in any case. Yes, I realize these are two people who will go on to have a child together, but why on earth would they shoot a scene wearing any less clothing than is required for the scene itself?
