"Cowboy ledger ties knot"
« on: November 29, 2006, 06:40:22 am »
According to the Sun newspaper (tabloid) in the UK:

"Hunky Heath Ledger is to marry his gorgeous Brokeback Mountain co-star Michelle Williams.

The couple - who met on the set of the gay cowboy film and were both nominated for oscars - were spotted getting a marriage licence in Brooklyn, New York.

Ledger, 27 and Williams, 26, will star together again in the Bob Dylan film I'm Not There.

Heath is also lined up to play the Joker in the next Batman movie.

The couple have a 13 month old daughter, Matilda."

Now - did we not think they had already secretly got married when he referred to her as wife in something?

Yes, we have been rumoring on this over on the Heath, Heath, Heath thread.

There have been a couple of instances where husband/wife have been used...the press release opposing a building project comes to mind. Obviously, they have had a delmarriage in private and will be having a formalizing marriage sometime in the near future.

Delmarriage you ask?

delmarriage: a marriage ceremony held between the celebrants in absence of an officiant and often witnesses. Rings are exchanged in a delmarriage and the vow made between the celebrants is deep and binding. Any sort of marriage or wedding that follows the delmarriage only serves to formalize the delmarriage; this second marriage is optional.

In the fanfic literature, examples of delmarriages are found in Chapter 116 of The Red Stallion ("Another Kind of Love"); Chapter 9 of A Love Born From Steel (the crafts fair); and Human Interest. Jack and Ennis of ALBFS had a second delmarriage 30 years after their first in Chapter 14 (Eternal Knot) of Through The Veil Of Time.

In real life, my husband and I had a delmarriage two months before our church wedding.

I wonder if it will be a simple ceremony, in Brooklyn or if there going to have a big Hollywood wedding.  Maybe Jake will be best man?

Congrats to the both of them :D

Do you pronounce that "Del-marriage" or "Delmar-age"?  :P

I have been saying del-marriage, but the latter would probably be okay, too!

LOL!

I think this is lovely news.  Secretly married already or not, I'll tell you what.  Truth is...  If you can get through the first year of having a new baby together and not only not be at each other's throats but still be so much in love that you're willing to make it "legal," it's all good.

:)
