Wooo-eeee!  Gustavo and Rodrigo are nominated again!  And chances are Jake will present, since he won one last year.  Regardless, I'm looking forward to this one most of all.  I adore Stephen Fry (I assume/hope he's hosting again), and all in all it's just so much more pleasant to watch than any other awards show.  It'll be held February 11.  I think the way it worked for us Yanks last year was it was shown taped the next night on BBC America...

Thanks for posting this information! Maybe we should have a chat during the show.

I'm hoping to see Pan's Labyrinth this weekend and I'm also very curious about Venus. Have you seen it?

"Venus" hasn't been released here yet, that I know of.  I'm hoping to see "Pan's Labyrinth" this weekend, too!  I'm actually taking the day off on Friday as a kind of mental health/Florida Appreciation day and going out to my favorite breakfast place (a family-owned place called Tom Sawyer), then to see "Babel" at 10:15, then to lunch at my favorite lunch place, then to get my hair cut at 3:00.  (I know - TMI.)  Then I'm hoping to see "Notes on a Scandal" on Saturday and "Pan's Labyrinth" on Sunday.  I don't travel much these days, unfortunately, so I like to have these days off here and there just to recharge my introverted batteries.

Cool! I don't think I can get Friday off but I'll try to get off early and rush over to the theater!!

There was a great review of the movie in The New Yorker.

I haven't found confirmation of it yet, but I know that last year it was shown on BBC America a few nights later, I think it was.  I still have that one TiVo'ed, since it was (and still is) such a thrill to see Jake win and the movie to win just as it should have.  And it was also just a wonderful show.  Stephen Fry really understands how to host these things, and the production team really knows how to present them.  They do everything the Oscars telecasts should do and don't, and nothing they shouldn't do and do.

i.e., there are no musical and/or production "numbers," no tributes to anyone not being honored that night except an "In Memoriam" one, and no inane scripted banter between two presenters (the presenters present solo).  On the other hand, this gives them time to show clips of ALL the nominated actors' performances and filmmakers' films.  As it should be.  God, I love the Brits.

I hope at least Ang will be there.  Jake may not be, since he's filming in Morocco, now, isn't he?

And though I'll have to do without Stephen Fry (wah!), I'm sure it'll still be a *far* more entertaining and tastefully-done show than anything the Academy has ever been able to put on.

I can make you a videotape if you'd like, Elle.

Sure, Barb!  That would be great.  But Stephen Fry - he's not doing it this year?  That WOULD be a big WAH!  I only just discovered the BAFTAs last year.

Forest Whitaker is on!! Have yet to see 'The Last King of Scotland'.. Nobody want' to see it...

Ruby Wax just kissed him on the mouth! And Daniel! And Daniel said that's a fine line homosexuality and being straight... oooOH! after Ruby Wax said she didn't know he was that homosexual in 'Capote'... (I'm guessing she meant 'Infamous'..)

I have Time/Warner cable programming and I noticed that my DVR is set to record the British Academy Film Awards tonight at 5:00 PM.  I hope that's the same program.  I'll let y'all know at 5:01PM, PST.

Well when my dog pees on something, he's just marking his territory.  So, maybe Sir Ian is just claiming Jake!

Hmm, I wonder who will accompany Jake to the BAFTA'S this year?

Well, for some reason, Ruby Wax asked Jake to explain to Ian what to do when you get bitten by a jelly fish.. Jake explained that you need to pee on yourself.. because the acid of your pee would make the jelly let go.. Then, for some other strange reason, they decided to act it out and Jake pretended he was stung by a jelly fish and Ian pretended to pee on Jake.....

Because you know, they do things like that at the BAFTAs..  ::)  ;D

I did see that black haired girl next to Jake too, but they don't see particularly close..

Daniel Craig is HOT! He seems extremely nervous.. CUTE!

Totally! And I wanted to see it, but missed the chance to do so.. One more I missed..

Now, Jamie Bell was quite boring at presenting just now and he looked as if he just woke up..

Anyone know who the voice belongs to, who is reading out the text for the clips they show at each award?

He presented Best Actress.  I forgot that they mixed it up a bit at the BAFTAs.  When Thandie Newton presented Best Actor, I finally figured it out.

He said something like "All of them are worthy of getting this guy" sort of gesturing to himself, and then he corrected himself and gestured to the statue and said, "THIS guy, THIS guy, THIS guy."  He's so good at this sort of thing that it's hard to tell whether it was meant to be a joke or whether he flubbed it up and recovered nicely.  I'm leaning towards the former, but he made it look so real it's hard to say.  Cute either way.

On another note, was it just me or was it really kind of blah last night overall?  I *really* miss Stephen Fry.

I couldn't understand what Jonathan was saying most of the time (I never understand what he is saying...), so yeah I thought it was kind of blah. I did miss Stephen Fry, he was hilarious last year!

It's NOT just you! I mentioned it too (see below). I do like Jonathan Ross and I even understands what he says  ;D, but it's true, it was kind of 'bland' the entire evening.. Nothing shocking..  :P

I love Jonathan Ross, but i think Stephen Frye did a better job at presenting the BAFTAs last year..

Yep - as he and Heath have both said, it never ends.

At least it was not entirely tasteless.  It didn't make me cringe as much as most.

For those who didn't see it, Jonathan Ross said something like, "He's brought a whole new audience to camping."

I agree, he talks too fast.  I hear well, and know that he did have a few funny llines, but nobody wanted to laugh with him.  He lacked charisma.

I think it was supposed to be a joke.  From all the interviews I've seen with Mr. G, I noticed what a wonderful sense of humor he has.  It is so unexpected from such a handsome young man, usually they take themselves too seriously.  Jake is very funny and down to earth.

Jake was born in the Chinese Year of the Monkey, and Monkey's are the jokesters, and love to entertain.

That was funny too.....with the emphasis on "Thhh..".  And when he rolled his eyes after someone from the audience called out his name, or something.

I agree, Adrian, that it was a joke.

You can see in the clip that the first "this guy" he's pointing to himself, then points to the statue with the other "this guy"s.

Great photos.

What a beautiful suit Jakey is wearing.  My fashionista co-worker says it looks like "raw silk."  Aren't they all at that level?

And is it actually a deep, dark brown and not black, or is that just the way the sun's catching it.  In any event, *very* nice.   :-*

I have to say that Helen Mirren looks absolutely beautiful! The hair, the make-up, the dress, very well chosen.

Anybody see what Eva Green was wearing and how extremely thin she was? Looks like she is ill. It scared me. :o

Yeah, REALLY.  The way she was smiling at him, I thought she was gonna go for a big hug.  Silly old girl.  No one would have thought badly of her for giving him a squeeze.  Sigh.  It's a sad day when I can't live vicariously through any of these people who are fortunate enough to be in his immediate proximity.

Maybe she wasn't sure if Jake was receptive to it....I mean, she did kinda pause, looked at him for 1.5 seconds and then...nothing!

Remember all of Jakes roles put women at a distance.  "BBM", "Donnie Darko", "Jarhead" and "Zodiac".  Maybe he needs to do a romantic love story, with a female, I mean.

Let's see, there's Sundance and Butch, Batman and Robin, and we need another Starsky & Hutch, a remake of Midnight Cowboy, and he'd be great as the Virginian with Heath as Trampas, and, oh yes, I was just reading a great story about Van Gogh and Gauguin...

Re: Helen Mirren.... she was given the chance to hug and kiss Jake Gyllenhaal and she didn't... what's up with that?

Well, she's been in the same boat as he at one point in her career, of being sex on legs. And she probably remembers what it was like to be treated professionally for a change instead of being drooled on.

But, on the other hand, I remember the chance I had to meet Henry Winkler one time...there were about a dozen of us in his suite on the studio lot, and he was going around the room shaking hands with all the guys. I was the only woman. I stuck my hand out to shake his when he came to me and he just grabbed me and hugged me and kissed me on the mouth...I didn't care about professionalism at that point!!

But didn't Daniel Craig say in an interview that it would be okay with him to incorporate a gay scene with his character and a gay character in the next Bond film?  I vote for Jake G. to play opposite Daniel C. for that scene.

I didn't know about John Barrowman (presenting the E! red carpet BAFTAs 2007 together with Ruby Wax), but he celebrated his civil partnership with architect Scott Gill end of 2006! Amazing! Until "How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria" (hosted by Graham Norton) I didn't even know about John Barrowman. And for once my gaydar..  ;D was completely off! I was convinced that he was very very open straight guy. Boy, was I wrong!

- Cute as hell! (not so much on this picture but during the BAFTAs red carpet and he said Jake Gyllenhaal and Daniel Craig were hot)..

I didn't know the following either -
Quote
Barrowman, who is gay, was under consideration for the role of Will in the popular US series "Will and Grace" but the producers felt he was "too straight" and the role went to straight actor Eric McCormack instead.
