Breaking news: 'Old Man Ennis'

Howdy, fellow Brokies:

I just saw something that I simply must share with you guys. At the university library at which I work, we just received the March-April 2006 (Volume XVIII, Number 2) issue of "American Art Review". Flipping through it, I saw an advertisement, on page 40, for Bozeman Trail Gallery, in Sheridan, Wyoming. The advertisment illustration is a pen-and-ink drawing by one Edward Borein (1872-1945), 6 1/2" x 3 1/2" in dimensions, of an ole grizzly cowboy with the title...'Old Man Ennis'. The caption states that the drawing is an original illustration in "The Phantom Bull" by Charles E. Perkins (page 2).

I was very excited to see this. I haven't had the time to research any of these references, but I had to let folks know of this discovery right away. And to let you know, this Bozeman Trail Gallery has a website, with the following URL:

http://www.bozemantrailgallery.com/

Excitedly,
Scott

Yup.

Thanks for posting that direct link to the picture. After I posted my news, I consulted the website itself, and saw the picture online. Another Wyoming Ennis for us to feast our eyes on!

That 'Old Man Ennis' looks like he could eat himself a camel!

Wow! What an incredible coincidence. Kind of eerie, don't you thinkl? One could almaost assume it's a drawing of Ennis thirty years later - wearing a moustache as a reminder/hommage to Jack...

Thanks for posting this, Scott, and Clarissa, thank you for finding the link to the drawing.

wow. that's amazing. it's a beautiful drawing. gorgeous line quality and evocative lighting. Though the brim of the hat doesn't exactly shield his eyes, the shadow does, and that reminds me of how Ennis would use his hat as a shield.
