ENNIS

Then why don't you?! Why don't you let me be? It's because of you, Jack, that I'm like this. I'm nothin'. I'm nowhere.

The Road to Nowhere:

We're going nowhere fast though nobody knows
This lonely road no one goes
I have you and you have me
but these dammned ghosts won't let us be
we get together then it's time to go
the aching in my heart even you don't know
My love I can not speak
the words fail me
the tears flow down my cheek
so together we'll travel
this road to nowhere as far as we can
there's no reigns on this one my lovely man.
"The biggest obstacle to most of us achieving our dreams isn't reality, it's our own fear"

I got a dabble too..
Sometimes sad is good, right?  :-\

You...

You strip me bare
Yet again
Like no one else can.
You leave me raw,
Exposed and wanting
With just a single word
Or a look in your eyes
Or touch you won’t give;
Yet you don’t even know it…

I stand on tiptoe
On the shaky bridge
That leads to you.
With every step forward
I take a step back.
I can’t close the gap.
When will I arrive?
When will my feet land
On your solid ground?

I am on a threshold –
It’s you or nothingness.
Surely you know that,
It must be clear.
Yet you strip me bare
With a few simple words
That hurt like hell.
I must love the pain
‘Cause I can’t keep away,
I can’t seem to fight..
I keep coming back for more…

There was a knocking on the door of the little trailer...The one with number 17 on the box.  The man opened the door to see who might be calling on him so late at night.    When he opened the door he found
no one there.  "Hunh", he said.  I thought i heard a knock.  He picked up his beer from the counter where he had placed it on the way to the door, and slouched toward the old worn down chair...  He slumped down and let out an exausted squash of air.  ehheehm  it was getting late, and still he sat, just looking but not seeing the figures that moved on the tv screen, with no sound.  There was too much sound in his head to hear anything on the television.
He remembered the words his daughter had said.."Daddy, you need more furniture."  He thought about what his answer had been, and thought it should have been.  "When you aint got nobody you dont need nothing."  And " when you aint got nobody, you dont go nowhere."  But he knew the look in her eyes,
he had seen it often enough...In Jack's deep blue eyes.  She was so disappointed, and heartbroke, he knew he had to do something  different for her...So he agreed and "remarked about how his little girl would be getting married"  and let her know he would go to the wedding.  It was a choice he would never regret.    The knock at the door came again, and when he went to see who was there, this time he knew it was Jack, even though he could neither see nor hear him.  He passed by silently and lay on the bed.  Only the breeze was cold and sharp, like he remembered from the time on the mountain hideaways, they returned to, each time they had the chance..    Ennis undressed and lay upon the  little bed, and felt at peace as he fell asleep.

Damn, Leslie, you read my mind. That is the exact "nowhere" that inspired the prompts.   :'(  Where's the "rip my heart out and stomp all over it" emoticon?

Aww, Lee - that's the best kind of sad - bittersweet and touching.  I hope to see more of your drabbles!

Yes, sometimes sad is good -and in this case it's very, very good.

Janice, you are really on a roll with brilliant drabbles!  What great turns of phrase . . . thanks for leaving us with a peaceful Ennis.

Thanks again,
Marie
