Ennis sat back down, and looked all around.  The lilac bush kept shaking.  Ennis sat motionless, the cigarette burning in his hand, as the spirits of the night danced around him.

Tension and suspense all the way through, as usual!

Timeless

At moments he least expected, precious memories would burst into his mind, sharp and fragmented.  He longed for time alone when he could let those fragments soften and bind, forming an unbroken circle – without beginning or end.

From Eternity

He stood watching the waves.  They came towards him, arriving from eternity.  The sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the water.  He didn’t move, he stood there transfixed by the sight, the fragmented images replaying in his mind.

All around him was silence, except for the waves crashing to shore, and the roar of the wind.  “The wind is your master” he heard a voice say.  But there was no one near him, no one at all.  Just the setting sun, the wind and the waves.

            Ennis drives along the two lane blacktop, the heat rising in waves and shimmering into the heat heavy sky.  The sun is beating down and splashing off the fields of hay.  It makes him think of an ocean. 

Janice, that is an awesome description!  I can picture these scenes so perfectly and feel Ennis's emotions so clearly.

. . .      “Professional fisherman? You?  More like a Master Baiter.”
      Jack laughed, looped his towel around Ennis’s waist, drew him close.  “Caught you didn’t I?” 

  Clyde, I never know if you're going to make me laugh or break my heart, but you always touch me either way.
