What a lovely start! You have such vivid details of the place and the characters and their feelings. I'm really looking forward to more.
Thank you!

I am not annoyed at all and thank you for starting the thread. I did modify the header to put your name in there, to make it clearer who the author was. My opinion....don't hide your light under a bushel!

Thanks for sharing...

Oh good, thanks Leslie! I just have three different threads going over here so I didn't want to be the crazy girl trying to take over the board  ;)  But if no one minds I'll leave it!

Well I don't mind at all, Mandy!  :-*

**SPOILERS**

I'm in Mandy! Great start! WOW! How do you do it??!

I love Jack going out at night to watch the stars and I loved how you had Ennis come into the story :) It's comforting to me knowing Ennis will be around the ranch now. Poor Jack :( *sigh*
I loved this little line, it's beautiful:

He grinned at her, a playful sparkle that warmed the air the woman breathed,

I have absolutely no problems with the age difference, it's hardly anything to me.

Looking forward to more, Mandy!  :-*

Well, I'm hooked -

I was trying to limit the number of fics I was reading, thinking I would wait for some to be completed before starting others, but when I read this:

Sometimes they felt as numerous as the stars in that sky he loved so much. But most nights, he could feel their passing, the ticking away of them loud in his ears as he wished that just for once he had more time to be at peace with the world.

and this:

He couldn’t remember ever wishing for night to fade into day, but if it meant seeing this man more clearly then he’d wish for it with all his heart.

How am I supposed to resist?  Now I'll have to go and find the rest of your fics and get sucked into them, too.  Might as well wave the white flag and surrender completely!  LOL!!

Thanks,
Marie

LOL Mel, the undecided smiliey is me thinking that I'm insane for starting a third story... and, to top it off, this isn't even the story I was planning on starting, this just randomly came out when I sat down to work on JBLaY yesterday.

So, I have a fourth plot bunny rolling around in my head now. But, too bad that story requires a lot of research, and I just don't think I can handle that at the moment...

Me too... in the beginning I hadn't planned on bringing Ennis in at all until much later in the story, but then I just couldn't do it, I had to have them together  ::)

I'm glad you don't mind the age difference, I really hadn't even thought that much about it until I started getting comments on it. 5 years doesn't seem that far apart to me, either. Though, I guess it'd be different if Jack was 21 and Ennis 26...

Thanks for the lovely comments, June!  :-*

That BASTARD John Twist!  >:(

I am glad that in my story he is dead and buried!  You do write him well though!

I hope Jack is gonna go back to school. I love to read that his teachers asked about him!

So Jack is 16 and Ennis 21?  :o I bet Jack's almost 17 and you are gonna make them wait until Jack's 18, like in BFF!

LOL!!  There's a lot of that "great minds" stuff floating around, Fabienne!  And, yes, a support group is a great idea.  I'll step up to the microphone first - "My name is Marie and I'm a Brokebackaholic - and I don't want to be cured."

Great to see you, Fabienne - hope you had a great holiday!   :)

I was gonna try to wait until the story was more along before I started it but it just keep calling. Now, once again, I am completely hooked. I am in awe of how Minch can completely suck you into a mood from the first paragraph.

Chapter 4 is up!

SPOILER

"Jack was full of dreams and hopes, most of which he knew, in the deepest part of the night when even the stars seemed to dull, were foolish things that would never come to pass. But Ennis was brighter than all of those. Jack saw life there."

Isn't that beautiful?

That's for letting us know!

I love this story  :)

I do too - it's worth repeating.

It’s hard to put into words how it felt for him to smile at the sun, to take pride in the earth and to have the joy he felt at the day make the night all that much brighter. He’d managed to bring day with him, earth to his sacred night. The two had melded in a way he hadn’t thought possible.

"...earth to his sacred night...."  Sigh.
