Another Side of the Story by marlb42 (aileb)
« on: March 02, 2007, 07:33:07 pm »
I have been so inspired, so I have been starting to work on my own fanfic.
I just decided to go ahead with  posting it and sharing it.

It explores the lives of some of the other characters from the great work of art.

It is called "Another Side of the Story"

I hope that you enjoy it and I would love your comments.

Thank you for inspiring me and giving me the confidence to do it.

Here is the link to the first entry.

http://aileb42.livejournal.com/849.html

This is different than most BBM fanfic, and I probably will jump around a bit.

This is wonderful news, Marleen!  Great title - I haven't read a word yet, but I already know I'll love it.  I've got quite a list of reading to do this weekend and I'm happy to add your fic to it.

Talk to ya soon,
Marie

Hi Marleen,

I think a story from the perspective of Cassie is very interesting. She is a character that very few authors have done much of anything with. This is a very intriguing  beginning and I look forward to reading more. Thanks for writing!

Thanks for the kind words. :)

Just so you know, I have already posted two chapters in addition to the Prologue.

I guess Cassie just wants everyone to know that she ain't just "a waitress, who wants to be a nurse, or somethin'"

I hope it is okay and somewhat interesting.

Hey, Marl,

As I said on LJ, you've left me wanting more - a Very Good Thing!   :)

As Leslie said, your premise is unique and that's also a Very Good Thing.  There is always so much more to any human being than what meets the eye - and I love exploring that.

This is terrific - Cassie knows there's so much more behind her image, and is hoping there's so much more behind Ennis's (and, of course, there is, but . . .):

Something about the way he sat there, Cassie knew this one was different, she could feel it.  Maybe this one, maybe this one would understand, maybe this one would realize that even though she joked around and liked to dance and yeah liked the way their hands made her feel that it wasn’t it..  But maybe this one would get it, get it why she just knew there was more to the world than this.  More than just the bars and the drinkin and the dancing, and even the things that went along with that.  Maybe this one would get it

This one short sentence struck me, I love these little details that reveal so much:

He still reached for her hair and gave it a gentle pull whenever she walked by.

Congratulations, again, Marl. There are so many tragedies left in the wake of society's ignorance and hate, and so many layers to Brokeback, thanks for peeling back another one.

Marleen,
I just read it and was delightfully surprised!   You can write Marleen!  And I am glad your writing from a females perspective.  Women see things in a whole different light.

Cassie was a character I could relate to in the movie. And I would of been interested to learn more about her.

I will be loooking forward to allot more of this story, as I have a feeling it's gonna be juicy!

I enjoyed Chapters 3 and 4 very much, Marl!

You're doing a great job with Cassie's backstory and I really feel that I'm getting to know her. We all need to  be needed and loved, don't we?  Chapter 4 reminded me of the song lyrics, "looking for love in all the wrong places."

Looking forward to more!

Thanks,
Marie

Hi Marl,

Chapter 5 was a heartbreaker.  I could have cried when she offered to pay for a motel room and when Billy never even looked at her.  Cassie is in such desperate need of guidance.  Sigh.  And you've also given us a reminder of what a cold, cruel world high school can be.

Cassie surprised me at the end - good for her! - but I'm wondering where she goes from there.

Thanks,
Marie

Hi,

Just wanted to let you know that Chapters 6 and 7 are now both up.

If you are new, I do admit this is different than other Fan Fiction. I so do hope that you give it a try.

If you have been reading, I do hope you enjoy these chapters.

Hi Marl,

Nice chapters.  Poor Cassie.  I knew it was coming - but I wasn't sure how - I guess I still don't know exactly how.

I liked how you conveyed in a lot of little ways how young these characters still are.  Their hormones and emotions are beyond their wisdom and experience - as was true for all of us.  I'm curious as to what will happen next.

Thanks,
Marie

Hey, Marl

Poor Cassie again. That line  -“Just once “she said very softly, almost to herself. “Just once someone should tell me before that they are gonna leave.” - was just so sad.  She must feel so rejected, even though it's not Sam's fault.  Cassie's trying to fill up all those empty places inside her and trying to make sure she doesn't get hurt again - but, of course, she's just making herself more unhappy even if she can't admit it to herself. I guess I'll have to wait for the next chapter to learn about Cliff.

Looking forward to more.

Thanks,
Marie

Marl,
Just read your story, and wanted to say how very much I liked it. For all Cassie's flamboyance when we first see her in the movie, that was just surface, and you really get that across, telling her story from her point of view. She's such a gentle, hopeful soul. Very believable. I'm really looking forward to more.

Hey, Marl -

Glad to see an update!

SPOILER

Well, I guess I learned about Cliff.   >:(  I'm glad Cassie ran into Mr. Allen - sometimes just a few encouraging words from someone we trust and respect can be life-changing.

But the ending left me feeling leery:

Cassie didn’t plan on going with anyone new any time soon.  She didn't plan on it despite how much she still wanted to.

Hmm... well, we know what can happen to plans.  You've got a great handle on Cassie, Marl.  Looking forward to more!

Thanks,
Marie
