Hey Roux!

Signing on for a sec just to make some recs...

Have you tried any of Bailey's stories? She has a large selection of fics, all well written and plenty of finished ones.

Just Another New Kid in Town is a great place to start, over 30 chapters, about a high school age Jack and Ennis, Jack just moves to town, is pretty poor, meets star baseball player Ennis who is just as cannon and withdrawn as ever. Bailey does an amazing job writing these boys. Her current WIP I'll Be Seeing You is also very good. It isn't complete, but it's over 40 chapters right now, and I think she said she has about 9 more to go.

Have you read The Wolf and the Thunderbird by kumari, Camden Yards' author? It also isn't complete, but she is getting ready to post the last 2 chapters and epilogue all at once in a couple of weeks she said, so, by the time you finish what is already there you won't have long to wait. This is one of my favorite fics and favorite Jack incarnations. It's dark, but well worth it. A 17 year old Jack and 21 year old Ennis set in 70's Texas.

Beans and Crazies is the ultimate AU if you ask me. It's by Montana Crows and Jack and Ennis set up a life together right off the mountain on a ranch in Montana, and it is literally about day to day life on the ranch but it is incredibly well written, she has Jack and Ennis spot on and knows ranch life because she's actually lived it. It isn't finished yet because this is literally the fic that will never end, but it's well into 60 chapters now, so plenty to take up your time. Updates come slowly now though because Montana Crows is actually in Iraq.

The Greatest Love by Cynical21 or her newest The Short Leash both cannon, both short but complete, both spectacularly written. Cyn is one of the fandom's best writers, IMO.

Those are just off the top of my head. I know I didn't give you many finished ones... if I can think of any more I'll let you know.

Oh, and for AU!AU RPS, Bailey's The Raw Prawn!! My favorite in RPS next to The Bellwether/Ronin (though I also love Down the Mountain/Water Walking which I see you're already reading...)

‘cause the truth is, I already give him everythin’ I got to give, more than I ever even knew I had; ‘n it all for him, all of it, him who is my brother, my father, my child, my friend, my lover, my heart, my soul; my Ennis.

Oh, and I say this to everyone, but ANY of Maggie's, even if they'll break your heart.

One of my favorites by her, Rusted Pipe, and this one actually does have a happy ending, despite the sadness in the middle (like Lake Geneva, kind of...). It's short at 9 chapters, I think...

Those are great recs - I hadn't heard of some, so thanks!

I'm having a hard time thinking of completed fics that I'm sure you wouldn't have read already.

I'd also recommend Mel's Right Where You Are (there's a thread on this page).  It's not complete - up to Chapter 10, I believe,  - but updates come pretty quickly.

Not complete, but a good ol' Sweet life story and plenty of chapters yet:

White Picket Fences and Apple Trees by midget-size:

Ennis del Mar left his wife and daughter to start a life with Jack Twist two years after that summer on Brokeback. Sixteen years later, Alma is dead and Junior is sent to live with her father and--surprise!--the man he loves.

There are already 22 chapters of part one and nine chapters of part two, plus some interludes. It's another URF, course I'm not bored with them yet, too  :)

Here are the links to the first ten chapters:

Link to the other chapters:

I think the links are not complete, but you also find them on midget's LJ page.

And I second Mandy's rec of  I'll Be Seeing You by Bailey:
Meanwhile there are 51 chapters and Bailey said the fic will have around 60. So I guess it will be finished (or almost finished) by the time you caught up.

Here's the link to the first eleven chapters:

Aaawww thank you so much Marie for recommending my story! :-*  :)

I am not reading much these days because I spend almost all my time writing (I can't spend too much time on the computer because of repetitive strain injury problems), but the stories that I am waiting for updates on and that I am really enjoying are Camden Yards, BFF, Fortunate Son, Zero at the Bone and Nobody's Angel....

Mandy-

I have a whole separate spreadsheet of Bailey stuff ! Most of your recommendations are on my other "to be started" spreadsheet (I'm so fanfic organized-why can't I find my other green flip flop??)

Looks like I'm going with:

White Picket Fences and Apple Trees by midget-size
finish The Raw Prawn
and start I'll Be Seeing You.

I'll probably need to start a discussion thread to gush about them  8)

These are two excellent stories.  I have followed them from the beginning.
Midget's Jack & Ennis and their bantering.  Love it.
IBSY........  one of my all time favorties.  I'm on the edge of my seat right now.
