Another thing about the pavement. When Ennis was standing on earth or grass, he felt grounded (literally). But when he was on pavement, he was cut off from Nature. Similar to how the water coming out of the faucet was the "domestic cousin" to the water that flowed along Brokeback Creek.  :)
