I keep waiting to hear/see something from him, but nothing so far.  Poor guy.  I feel so bad for him.

i clicked the link and it told me page not found.

I see that. It was there yesterday. Perhaps whoever uploaded it thinks they've made their point by now. It was nothing more than the dancing bear and a short written statement opposing the Phelps clan and ending with "love thy neighbour", as I recall.

Some news on how Jake is coping. Don't know the reputation of this publication as I saw this posted elsewhere. Our poor Jakey is having a hard time.  I'm glad Reese is proving a pillar of strength.

Jake Gyllenhaal Leaning On Reese Witherspoon, Sister For Loss of Heath Ledger

Jake Gyllenhaal is struggling mightily with the shock and is desperately leaning on his girlfriend, Reese Witherspoon, to help him cope with the grief he feels over his late pal Heath Ledger, sources tell OK! Magazine.  A pal of Jake tells OK! that Reese has been crucial in getting the Brokeback Mountain star through this terrible time.

"Jake calls Reese every night," the friend confides.  "He told her he’s having a hard time facing something as big as this." Jake’s first call when he heard about the loss of Heath was to his older sister, Maggie, the report claims.

A Gyllenhaal family insider says Maggie, 30, is trying her best to be there for her 27-year-old brother.  After she spoke to him on the phone, the insider says, “Maggie must have been concerned for Jake.  I heard he sounded groggy, like he was in a daze.  He was mumbling about Heath being gone, his voice was shaky and he was choking back tears during the conversation.  I’m sure Maggie could hear the hurt in Jake’s voice.”

Jake, who is godfather to Heath’s 2-year-old daughter, Matilda, with Michelle Williams, feels guilty for not being there for his Aussie buddy.  “I bet Maggie’s worried about her brother beating himself up and wishing he had known how bad things were,” says the friend.  “There is only so much a person can do.”

umm, I don't like ok! very much....

and I think "how bad things were" is a poor characterization of events.

and I wonder how much of 'a friend' that person really is...

Here's a story about Heath's funeral.

Sorry, I forget how to make the link active.

The bottom two lines say Jake was "noticeably absent" and "has remained secluded".   He is really struggling with losing his friend, more than anyone else it seems.

I keep wondering why people insist that they were 'best friends'. Who knows? They might have become mere 'acquaintances' for all we know. They were never seen together outside of the BBM formal gatherings. That godfather thing isn't necessarily for life, is it? I'm just throwing some stuff out there, because I just don't believe they were that close anymore.

That doesn't make his grief any less, of course, that's not what I mean. I mean, they shared this movie that changed both their careers.

Usually "godfather" is a lifetime obligation and usually especially comes into play with the death of a parent.  Of course lots of people do this differently.  But, it's usually a pretty significant role to assume... to agree to take on and to offer to a person.

Its sure been made a big deal that Jamie Lee Curtis is Jake's Godmother.  I've been kinda thinking along the lines of what Mel says.  I mean no disrespect to Heath or Jake or anybody.  I'm sure Jake is grieving.  I just wonder how close they stayed as friends after BBM and all the awards ceremonies were over.  It seems they both got on with their own lives.

I have the same impression!

Jake was "noticeably absent" because he was filming "Brothers"! Filming officially ended yesterday. There were even sightings of Jake in New Mexico on Thursday and Sunday.

To me, it's hard to understand Jake's absence during this time of mourning if it isn't for the idea that he's taking it very hard or possibly that he doesn't want to shift the spotlight away from Heath's family.

I say this because Jake has to know that the public memory of Heath will always be most strongly and directly linked with Jake in terms of Heath's actual career and oeuvre.  I mean, specifically, as time goes on this one image is how most people will recall Heath (in terms of his career).

<img src="http://www.divshare.com/img/midsize/2746499-dd4.jpg" border="0" />

Whether or not they were still best friends... this now sort-of immortal connection has to mean something.  Yes Heath made other movies, but as the years go on it seems pretty clear already that BBM will be seen as Heath's masterpiece and most serious contribution to cinematic history.  Frankly, I think it's odd that Cate Blanchett and Daniel Day Lewis (who says he never even met Heath) were able/ felt compelled to mark Heath's passing publicly while Jake has so far remained silent.  I mean, back to the godfather issue... that's like being named an honorary (non-legal) guardian-type figure to a child... sort of like symbolically being part of the family.  And it was up to Daniel Day Lewis to make one of the most gracious eulogies for Heath so far (not counting Michelle's moving statement)?  I'm equally a Gyllenhaalic and a Heathen, so I certainly don't mean to be judging Jake on this.  Everyone reacts to tragedy differently, so I'm just projecting my own sensibilities into this I think.  But, I simply can't help feeling that it's odd in some way.

I'd really be curious to know what's being said in Jake's fandom at the moment beyond the realms of specifically the BBM fandom.
