Heath is mentioned by Wainwright; I don't know if it's on stage or backstage.
Anyway, good for Jake; he deserves to get some rest and do something he enjoys. And Wainwright's music is so effing emotional that I wouldn't really call it an escapist activity . . .

Weird comment. But he probably meant it in a good way.

Rufus wrote "Matinee Idol" for River years ago. Here's the lyrics:
RUFUS WAINWRIGHT LYRICS
"Matinee Idol"
This is the day
The day of the death
The death of the matinee idol
Still so beautiful as the angels
As the angels came down from high
So sweet and so soft
So charmingly daft
So young was the matinee idol
Lips of crimson, slightly open
As the flash and all fame put to rest
Walk along that wall
No it is not from the academy
Walk along that wall
From this moment on
You'll cease to be the undying love of the public eye
And so goes one more away from the maze
Away for to sit at the table above babel
Far from this world
While standing on the boulevard
Walk along that wall
No it is not from the academy
Walk along that wall
From this moment on
You'll cease to be
But still
Whomever has looked at beauty is marked out already by death
Still so beautiful as the angels
As the angels came down from high
And here's what Rufus (reportedly) said about Heath (from Laura's link):
"Wainwright on Heath Ledger's death: "I wrote this song for Rivers Phoenix when he died. Now I sort of see it as Heath Ledger's song. Like my friend said, 'They always die after playing a gay person.'"
No idea how he meant it :-\

To me it's striking how this activity is so closely associated with BBM. I seem to recall Jake has been known to attend Wainwright concerts in the past anyway. But, it really is sort of surreal (in a good way perhaps) to have both Wainwright and Jake in the same space together so soon after this tragedy with Heath.

Interesting indeed. I hope this doesn't mean Jake is going to have to watch out for himself too... if Rufus's statement holds true.
:o :-\
It's a pretty upsetting comment when you think about it.

myprivatejack:
Or I don´t understand English at all or I´m more stupid than I thought... ??? Well,Jake didn´t go to his great friend burial, even for respect to him and to his family. And few days after he´s seen enjoyuing in a concert? And you find it so well done? :( Well,I repite,I DON´T UNDERSTAND.
louisev:
Jake had to work on finishing his film during the time of the funeral. He would not be able to go anyway. Most of us were worried about whether Jake was too sad to go on with his life after Heath's death and it is a relief that he has gone out to a concert.
If you look at pictures of the people cheering at Heath's wake - just because they are happy and laughing in a single picture or at one time does not mean they are not sad. And Jake enjoying a concert is probably a relief for him from the sadness of the past three weeks, and yes, we are glad for him, to enjoy some time with his friends. I know I am.
