Jake Gyllenhaal says his new film owes a lot to Brokeback Mountain
Jake Gyllenhaal has said his new film Love And Other Drugs is the "child" of the Oscar-winning Brokeback Mountain.
Jake stars opposite his Brokeback co-star Anne Hathaway in the new movie based on James Reidy's best-selling autobiography, Hard Sell: The Evolution Of A Viagra Salesman, and says he owes a lot to Ang Lee's award-winning gay cowboy love story.
Jake told Esquire magazine: "This movie that Annie and I made was spawned from that. Love And Other Drugs is the child of Brokeback Mountain. It really is. That's how it feels to me."
He went on: "We struck gold with that film. That movie continues to last, and a large part of that has to do with how extraordinary Heath Ledger was, and what an extraordinary force he was as an actor. If he were still alive everybody would be clamouring to work with him. I just feel honoured to have worked with him and to have called him a friend."
He also said he was "desperate" to work with Michelle Williams again.
On his career, the brooding Jarhead star said: "I like to go after things that maybe are a little bit less what people would expect from me. Love And Other Drugs feels like a turning point for me."

I think there is a lot of potential for greatness if that ever happens. I can imagine they will have a very strong chemistry
