Ellemeno:
I am not familiar with this singer-songwriter, but it sounds like Heath may have made a small film about him.  Can anyone find more on this?

Maybe Heath's taking advantage of Michelle going to the premiere to spend Daddy time alone with Mathilda.  I hope so.  As for that all those chummy reports from her Dad, I thought she was estranged from her Dad?

One of his songs is Northern Sky:

I never felt magic crazy as this
I never saw moons knew the meaning of the sea
I never held emotion in the palm of my hand
Or felt sweet breezes in the top of a tree
But now you're here
Brighten my northern sky.

I've been a long time that I'm waiting
Been a long that I'm blown
I've been a long time that I've wandered
Through the people I have known
Oh, if you would and you could
Straighten my new mind's eye.

Would you love me for my money
Would you love me for my head
Would you love me through the winter
Would you love me 'til I'm dead
Oh, if you would and you could
Come blow your horn on high.

I never felt magic crazy as this
I never saw moons knew the meaning of the sea
I never held emotion in the palm of my hand
Or felt sweet breezes in the top of a tree
But now you're here
Brighten my northern sky.

Wow, thanks Mel.  I don't remember ever hearing of him, but he sounds very important to musicians important to me.  And a sad, interesting life story.  Here's the "official" Nick Drake website: http://www.brytermusic.com/  Have your sound up, I'm listening to a beautiful song called "Fruit Tree" now.  Big thanks, Mel.  And cool about Heath making a film about him, hunh?

Update: I'm listening to my third Nick Drake song now, on his website, and he's great.  Suits me to a quiet, complex, velvety, nature-driven tee.

And I just missed something significant right here in Seattle:
Nick Drake on tour in the US.

Over the years Nick's music has had a singular impact on other artists from many different disciplines. We have decided to celebrate these by exhibiting a selection - both as static displays (photography, writing, painting, collage) and as film pieces. A few were specially commissioned for the event, but most were submitted as self-generated homages.

We have called the event 'A Place To Be' and plan to tour it for as long as people want to see it, we plan to add to it as we go.

Contributions have come in from such artists as Heath Ledger, Tim Pope, Jonas Mekas, Paul Rider, The Books, Keith Morris, Julian Lloyd, Russell Mills, and the poet Nick Drake. There will be 30 pieces in all, plus screenings of the film 'A Skin Too Few'

'A Place To Be' debuts as part of the 'Bumbershoot' festival in Seattle USA on September 1st - 3rd 2007.
