Heath Heath Heath

Kerry:

A scan of a page from the Tues 13 May 2008 edition of Sydney's Daily Telegraph newspaper. The photo was taken in New York on Mother's Day. Little Matilda Rose certainly does look like her darling daddy.

Mikaela:
Clarissa, thank you for the article on the legal issues surrounding the inheritance. It was an interesting read, proving how something that might seem so immediately intuitively easy and obvious (ie. as in: "Of course Matilda, as Heath's only child, should inherit his estate!!") gets so utterly complex in the face of previous wills, and multiple domiciles, jurisdictions and nationalities involved.

To some not inconsiderable extent it sure was a surreal read!

I can only wonder what Heath would have thought, reading that stuff. He'd probably have freaked out big time.  :-\ I mean, discussion as to whether Matilda is legally his daughter - where inheritance is concerned? The plain unnecessary weirdness of the conclusion for that is striking;
--- Quote ---So, one way or the other, Matilda should be able to establish a parent-child relationship with Ledger.

I'd say! One needs only take one look at her.

Anyway... All that stuff would go away if the family members named in the old will waived their rights, leaving it all to Matilda. Probably with Michelle as "administrator" as long as little M is a minor. I hope they'll do that and leave be.  Surely that must have been what Heath would have wanted. I hope they'll all respect that.

optom3:
I begin to wonder when does it all end.The law be damned,it is plain logic.He made a will before his daughter was born.Presumably as his death was accidental, he simply had not got round to making a new will.
My husband in the wake of this, suddenly realised that he needed to make a new will as his existing one was over 10 years old.
In it he left everything to his nephews and nieces and nothing to his at the time unborn kids.
He has now rectified that.
So I only hope that the beneficiaries of the current will do the decent,civilized thing,avoid costly,drawn out court battles where only the attorneys line their wallets,and just hand the whole lot over to his daughter,with her mother as trustee.
However these days I am so cynical, I seem to always think the worst until it is proved otherwise.I have pretty much given up on a large sector of society to do the right thing.
Let's hope my cynicism is unwarranted on this occasion.

Hi Mel! I have a rostered day off today and am going to visit Heath again (the portrait) at the Archibald, before the exhibition closes next Sunday. How's everything with you?  :D
