I just see you changed your avatar to John's rose :D. It's a great picture, isn't it? Such a beautiful rose, I've never seen this color in a rose before.

I have heard a variety of theories:

1. How high the cliff was, and Jake doesn't like heights.
2. The risk to Jake (but then, why did they let Heath do it?).
3. Jake wasn't on the set. This scene was filmed in the 2 week period when he left to go attend to other business.

I've also heard theory #1 and 2. For the second theory I've heard that Jake's contract for filming Jarhead didn't allow it due to insurance issues. Then it makes sense why they let Heath do it, but not Jake.
