The Once A Month Ritual

<< < (2/2)

Ray:
Bumping because Leslie told me to and she cares for all testicles.

henrypie:
I'll tell my husbie the good testicle news.

Hey, I thought I'd share my method for remembering to do a breast self-exam.  For a while I tried doing it on the same day of the month, every month, but since my menstrual cycle doesn't necessarily correspond to the calendar, and you're supposed to aim for the same point in your period because the consistency of your breast tissue can change with your period, here's what I do....  I happen to take the Pill,  and when I get to the end of a pack of pills (which I take at bedtime), I trot down the hall and put the empty pack in the shower next to the soap.  It ensures I'll be at roughly the same place in my cycle every exam, and it's a physical reminder right there in the shower -- I need every possible reminder.

Many older men are not that familiar with some parts of their bodies. While it was over 20 years ago and my father was in his 60s, he did not even know that a man had a prostate until, Walt, his fishing buddy had to have his removed due to cancer.

In regard to breast/chest exams, men do get breast cancer.

I have a friend, Ken, who has been diagnosed with Klinefelter's Syndrome. He has an extra "x" chromosome and he has undescended testicles. He is in his latter 60s and he has to take hormone shots to keep himself looking masculine.

Because of the kind of "KS," his chest looked like someone had transplated the breasts of a young teen girl and put them on top of his regular man's chest. Medicare and his HMO would not do cosmetic surgery because they did not think it was necessary. But, back in January growths were found on each side and then an "or else" surgery was done. He feels so much better that he has a flatter chest when he wears a T-Shirt style shirt in public now.

He told them that one of his doctors told him this week that while some of the cells on one side of his prostate have become hard tissue, the rest is still healthy enough to leave alone.

Near a man's prostate is the cowper's glands and they are the organs which produce the "clear slick" as in the story. With some guys, those little jewels produce a lot of lubrication, especially during prolonged foreplay.

Yesterday, I got a call from a person representing the "Coalition Against Breast Cancer. I told her about my friend and how many extra bills he had due to the operation because his medical programs would not pay for the whole thing. She told me to have him call, 1-800-839-3110, to get financial assistance. While I am too strapped to help her cause where she is a volunteer, I was glad that she was willing to help me help someone else.

Oh, I am reminded of what the former US Surgeon General Dr. Koop claimed he said to woman who disapproved of "sex education in schools where they learned the names of body parts. He said, "Well, wouldn't it be better for a boy when he sees a doctor to call his penis by that word rather than a 'pee-pee'? Wouldn't it be better for children to know the correct names for body parts to begin with?"

Lynne:
I just posted over in my blog about a fabulous play I saw last weekend - reminded me of this topic - it deserves a *bump*!
