Pet Peeves
underdown:
WOW, snoring sounds popular (but wasn't on the list) :D
.
Well, if I'm very tired (which happens on week-days), I do tend to snore when sleeping on my back, and sometimes on my right side (and often wake, thinking it must be someone else ... but I live alone, so I must be guilty). ::) :-X
My top, pet peeve is religious guys (sorry, religious guys) who think that a religious person's interpretation of what is good and right must, by default, be God's.
One such was related in a new documentary called 'Kevin's Questions'. Kevin is an AIDS orphan from Kenya. In one segment, he is told by a Community Elder that, if he is considering sexual intercourse, he should not use condoms, but pray to The Lord (it did not explain whether that meant he should procreate and God would protect him from AIDS, or if he should pray for his hormones to be taken away).
Guess the general pet peeve comes under the headings of 'do-gooders', 'know-alls', and the like, who try to tell us that we should be either straight and married, or be celibate. Just like them. Which, also, by default, must be how God really meant to create us (not).
Grrrrrrrr. I'd like to introduce them to a Baptist Minister who thinks that love for each other is what is important (straight or gay, black, white, or technicolour), that marriage is not a piece of paper, and that a piece of paper is not a licence to abuse someone with impunity.
Kerry:
I agree, Rob. The world sure would be a better place without religious bigots. :-\
Rayn:
My pet peeves is when you meet someone online and they lie about their age or looks. I mean, if you're gonna meet people in person after meeting online, if you say you're 40, but are really 59, or say you're a blonde when your bald but wear a blonde rug, isn't it going to be obvious! I hate that, I guess I just really dislike dishonesty.
Dobie1018:
One of my pet peeves is a small pet peeve, but it still irritates me every time I hear it. It is people who regularly pronounce the word "ask" like the word "ax", and the word "asked" like the word "axed". I hear it quite often from people and each time I hear it I want to correct them, but hold my tongue!
LauraGigs:
--- Quote ---Spitting in public is also a pet peeve of mine. I was waiting for the subway late one night, and this grody guy close to me kept spitting on the tracks. It was nasty. I was tempted to give him a piece of gum or something.
--- End quote ---
OMG, so true. A lot of annoying things are generally recognized as annoying and therefore not done by most adults (e.g. nose picking). But a lot of the same people have no compunction about spitting. Eeeew! (Like, at least spit into the garbage or bushes or somewhere out of plain sight.... :P)
