Yes with the group it was definitely tent camping and usually miles into the woods. One thing I was never real wild about was the backpacking. But it is definitely a good way to learn how to pack since you have to carry everything on your back. That will definitely make you lighten the load. I remember once we went to some place near Elizabethton, Tennessee near Road Mountain. We were about 1 1/2 miles in so this other guy and me kept going in and out to get supplies. We ended up with steaks, lots of beer, even some whisky, and everything else you can think of. It was my favorite camping trip. The thing is by the next day when we went for a 12.9 mile hike along the ridges which also went along some of the AT my feet had blisters on them from all the walking in and out of the camp  ;D That was painful, but definitely a time I will always remember. The other trips were several miles in to the woods so you could not go in and out so easily.

That's how I camped most of the time, too, Chuck. Near a lake.

Camping, wow!

We always did when we had to go hunting!

Wish I could now camp for just fun!!

Hugs!

Yes it does have a San Francisco feel to it. I didn't know that it had been compared to Atlantis. That is very interesting. I sure hope that it never gets destroyed.

And it is not a good idea to get them before the 12.9 mile hike either  ;D
