These ideas would bubble up from the neighborhoods to the local governments and grassroots changes could be made at all levels. I found that impressive.

Yeah, that sometimes happens here and there. I can't say it's a regular thing though. It usually takes someone very comitted to start the process, but when it does work you could say it's really grassroot democracy. It also brings people together.

Hiya BetterMost friends!!!!
I hope everyone is having a good Labor Day weekend!
I spent Friday evening relaxing. Saturday I did some stuff around the apartment, and did some shopping. Sunday was laundry day, and visiting with the parents. Tomorrow I'll be doing some baking. My sister-in-law sent me a recipe for Key Lime Pie cookies. She said she saw it and thought of me because of the Christmas cookies I make. I'm not making these then, citrus stuff always seems to be a Spring and Summer type thing, so I'm going to make them today as an "end of summer" treat, and give them to my family and take them to work.
Never made this recipe before, so I'm hoping they turn out well. I'll take some pics when they're done.

Don't hold your breath, the cookies didn't turn out right.
Baking fail today, on my part, definitely not the recipe.
It's an easy cookie dough recipe that tastes like a pie crust, you place an indent in the cookie, fill it with the key lime filling, and then frost with a mix of buttercream frosting and key lime juice.
Individually, each part tasted great. I was most afraid of the filling not being thick enough, but it turned out just right. So did the cookies.
I messed up on the frosting. Not sure what I did, but it didn't get thick enough, and wouldn't hold is form. Perhaps I didn't beat it long enough?
I'm not giving up on this recipe, because it tasted so good. I just need to figure out what I did wrong with the frosting. There's another 3-day weekend coming up in October, maybe I'll try again then.

Why do they need frosting anyway? That seems to me to be a case of "gilding the lily."
