On this latitude (southern Sweden), that's always been the case.
We always go to school/work and come home in the dark for 3-4 months a year. Further up north for several more months.

--- Quote from: Jeff Wrangler on July 16, 2026, 11:42:29 pm ---As I always say, I'm perfectly content with the way things are because I don't like the idea of sunrise around 4:30 a.m. around the beginning of summer and after 8 a.m. around the beginning of winter.
There must be something wrong with me because I really can't comprehend how people would be happy with that.
But it's also true that I'm a night person. If I'm still awake at 2 a.m., I would prefer not to have the sun rise two hours later. ;D
I understand someone has recently introduced a bill to the U.S. House of Representatives to keep the country on DST.

If you don't like the difference in light between summer and winter, maybe you should consider moving further south? ;D

I don't see what good that would do.

Well, the difference between summer and winter lightwise is smaller further south.
Right on the equator there's no difference at all.

Exactly. I've only been near the equator on one vacation, in June, and not only were day and night pretty equal in length but sunset happened really abruptly.
As for summer vs. winter, I see a difference just within my state of Minnesota. At the summer solstice in Minneapolis it gets a little after 9 p.m.; in the northern parts of the state it's more like 10.
