Well, today has been down and up for me.
On the way to work, the three lane road I take had everyone merging into 1 lane. My first thought: "Oh, this isn't good."
As traffic went on, I could see the flashing lights ahead for many police cars. There was a car stopped on the side, with a woman in it on her phone. There was no damage to her car, I assumed she was a witness. Next up was a van, with considerable front end damage. However, I couldn't see a second car that was involved.
And then I got to the intersection. Coffe cups and a pair of sneakers strewn about. In the middle, a body under a white sheet. The van had hit a pedestrian.
:o
I really didn't need to see that today.
And then I get to work, and my boss pulls me into his office to tell me I'm getting a bonus in my next paycheck.

Congratulations on the bonus, Chuck. As for the rest, I'm very sorry. Seeing something like that really makes you stop and think just how fragile this life is. And to remember that someone is likely grieving the loss, and someone else likely feeling overwhelming guilt at being at least part of the cause of the loss.
One of Truman's signatures was something like 'Slow down.' Which reminds me of a Grateful Dead lyric, written by Robert Hunter, I think...'Play each card and play it slow...'
*sigh*

So true. Funny, just last night I was watching Sting's "Fragile" on youtube.
Sorry you had to see that, Chuck.
CellarDweller:

and you too, Big Brother! Where you've been hiding yourself latey? :-*
Penthesilea:
Uh Chuck, I'm sorry you had to see that terrible accident.
And what a strange day, that shortly after this you got a bonus. Congratulations on the bonus anyway! More money for Brokie-travels, huh?
