The chance of an accident is WAY low after half an hour from eating.

His litterbox has always been in the basement, so we keep his water bowl and food bowl in the basement, so he is always near his litterbox.  He just used the box a little while ago, we made a big deal out of it....hugging him and petting him.

He's not locked in the basement 24/7, he likes to be outside (though he's an indoor cat) so we let him out into a screen house we have......he's zipped inside and can't leave, and we make sure that we spend time with him when he's there, so he's not locked away from us totally.

and nothing can get HIM...good for you. I don't allow my cats outside here, too many things that would like to eat them.

That's terrible Chuck! I hope he gets better soon. It sure does sound like he has a great home and a great family to take care of him though. He'll get used to his box again though once he gets to feeling all better. I keep my cat inside too. The cats I had before went in and out, but when I got Code I decided that he didn't need to be out there where things could get him and he could get other things. I'm sure he would love climbing all the trees and running around out there, but he likes to look out the window at the birds and all. It is kind of like his TV I guess. He never even tries to go out. I hope Blaze is feeling much better.
