I think red is too ... feminine for a man's luggage.
Plus, I think there is something to be said for choosing a color that doesn't call attention to itself. It might not be quite so easy for you to spot on the luggage carousel if you've checked it, but it also won't so easily draw the eyes of any criminal luggage handlers. 8)
Go for black, or maybe a really dark blue.
