Thoughts for the day
Shakesthecoffecan:
"An old man sleeps with his conscience at night
A young man sleeps with his dreams
While the mentally ill sit perfectly still
And live through life's in-betweens"
--John Prine, from "The Late John Garlfield Blues"

I think I would like to see Don Knotts' movies remade starring Harry Conick, Jr. in the rolls Knotts played. Not as the sappy slapstick originals, but as a more uptodate Gump-esque treatment:

Last night I attended a service at the Memorial Spiritualist Church in Norfolk, Virginia where eseffjoe's partner Jim was the visiting pastor. It was a wonderful sermon and he closed by reciting the owrds of the Beatles from nearly 40 years ago. It brought me back to our boys, made me see Jack's acceptance of reality in the trail head parking lot:
When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.
And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree,
there will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted there is still a chance that they will see,
there will be an answer. let it be.
Let it be, let it be, .....
And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light, that shines on me,
shine until tomorrow, let it be.
I wake up to the sound of music, mother Mary comes to me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be, .....
