The other week when experiencing some sort of attraction to the Gomer Pyle character, I watched a slew of youtube videos and came across the intro to the show:

Reading the comments I came across this one from a poster id'd as Sierria64:
"The guy standing next to gomer , the black guy is my dad. sgt lamar william he died in 1971 in vietmnam." (her speling)
I remember that black guy from when I was a kid, I was conscious of his being there, integration was still a new thing at the time. It is strange in this day and time some one steps out and identifies him.
