Hi Fabienne!  I've never used heat; rather everything is well chilled.  Also, I just use an ordinary whisk.  I prefer it without the egg whites.  Freshly grated nutmeg on top.  Yum.  I'd rather have a little of the real stuff, than a lot of the fake stuff.

IMO, 3 ounces of bourbon is stingy.  8)

Thanks for all the egg nog advise guys! I'll definitely try it out and let you know what it tastes like.  :)

And I promise not to be stingy with the booze Paul!  ;D ::)

btw, I think it's wonderful to have all these very traditional foods and drinks. We don't have that over here. For instance, we've celebrated Christmas at my in laws for many years now and we always have fondue...it's nice but not really christmassy.

Enjoy Thanksgiving!

Heya!

I'm here to report that I had my first 2 glasses of egg nog for the season yesterday at my parents' house while we were putting up the Christmas tree.  It was store-bought and pasteurized.  They got it from some kind of gourmet store... so it wasn't regular grocery store egg nog.  It was very tasty... this time I didn't put alcohol in it and it came with nutmeg already in it.  I'm sure I'll have lots more as the season goes along...

Here's my all-time favorite eggnog -- it has a homemade cream-eggs-spice taste, none of the corn syrup flavor and texture you often get with storebought eggnogs. Despite the name, it's non-alcoholic

Have never cared for whiskey or brandy in eggnog personally -- the tastes just seem to clash somehow. But I do like this one with liqueurs like Kahlua.

I like Egg Nog.  It's been a Christmastime tradition for me ever since I was little girl.  I drink the kind that comes in a container, and I usually thin it down by making a 2/3 egg nog to 1/3 reduced fat milk.  I may add nutmeg and drink it cold.. MMmmm its really good.
