Whoo-eee!
The school my middle child attends had an AIDS/Childrens Run today. Half of the money goes to the local AIDS-Hilfe (AIDS support network), the other half to SOS-Children's Villages.
This year, they have a new record: 23 000 Euros (=33 400$). Last year, it was around 18 000 Euros.
Each round was one kilometer and my daughter ran 13 kilometer in two hours (8 miles). The kids had to find sponsors themselves (mostly parents and other relatives, naturally), who pay them a specific amount for each round (you could also pay a fixed sum, but what's the fun in running then?).
She came home very proud. They have always a competition going, which class run the most rounds (added from all children of one class), and which class collects the most money. And her class won the money collection competition, yay! As the prize, the two winning classes go out to an ice-cream parlor :).
The school has been doing this event for some years now, and all together, they have collected more than 80 000 Euros. That's 116 414 $!
I think this is a great idea of the school! :)

Well, this morning we are having a perfect equinoctial nor'easter. Such a storm of wind and rain! I got to work soaked to the knees. >:( But I managed to do it without spilling my cup of Dunkin' Donuts coffee. ;D
