A couple of sure signs that fall is coming, if slowly:

Even before I went off on my summer ramble, the sun was rising after my alarm clock rings in the morning (after 6 a.m.).   :(

The oak trees near where I work have begun to drop their acorns. (The squirrels are very happy.  ;D )

Yeah, I was noticing that happening last weekend at the BBQ I was at....the acorns were falling off the trees hard....we could hear them slamming into the deck.

Jeff Wrangler:
Another sure sign of the approach of fall: Sweetzel's Spiced Wafers, a kind of ginger snap, have reappeared on store shelves here in Philadelphia. They're only available in the fall. A late friend used to call them "Halloween cookies," because they're only available in the fall.

I stock up on them so I can eat them all winter. Sort of like a squirrel hoarding acorns. ...  ;D
