In the NEW YORK TIMES!!!! Congrats Meryl, you must be really proud.

What does semi-staging mean? I know the words, but can't figure out what the writer means in this context. Maybe it's theater-lingo?

Thanks, Chrissi!  Semi-staged means that it's not a full production with costumes and sets and lighting.  The orchestra was on the stage and the singers performed in front of it.  We had only a few pieces of furniture, some hand props and bits of costumes worn over the singers' concert clothes.  Over the orchestra we hung a painting of a castle and also some pendants with the lion crest.  It worked really well, though, and we even had a battle scene complete with sword fighting.  :D
